<div class="IPBDescription">microphone troubles</div> Hi, to be straight to the point, I cannot record anything with my microphone.
What I tried:

-Maxed all volumes I could find
-I replaced the battery of my motherboard, had to be done sometime.
-I have unchecked "Mute" below my microphone:
<img src='http://img117.exs.cx/img117/3839/muted8qj.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Iif I tap my microphone on my desk I hear a thumping through my boxes!
-Any other headset does exactly the same.
-I haven't tried reïnstalling or knoppix yet...

My worst fears: my motherboard is dying -.-,

Okay this is freaky, in Natural Selection it still works O.o
....someone wake me up.

Make sure your sound recording default device is set correctly in your audio properties and also make sure all your drivers for your sound card are up to date.

Your problem is that your microphone input is not on the same page as you output,
What you checked is you ouput options (therefore comes the noise, since the input from the mic is directly outputtt on your speakers)

Check you "Opties" Menu for Settings
if you click that you shout get an option "recording" or the dutch equivalent
There you can only select one option , well it has to be the mic if you want to use it.
Some programs (like my TV Card tuner sets the line is as default if you start them) so you wont get anything through.

    Hope that helps

Options -> Properties, then select the 'Record' radio button. Make sure your record source is set to your microphone. :b

/me rolled a natural 20 on "burninating" skill
    /me burninates "Neo phyte"

    but for real
Well, he said he reinstalled the drivers, well if its a problem like the one i described, the next time he launches that particular program they wont work again, so i gave him an option to solve it without driver reinstalling

    ...
Only 1 device. my onboard ****.

On startup, before the POST signal, either it will take looong before it says I have 1 HDD and 1 DVD-RW and go on boot nice 'n fine, or it will try to find everything automaticly, I see only my DVD-RW, and it starts whining my CMOS battery is low, and the memory is wrong, O.o I just bought a new battery and put it in. Oh, I flashed the bios to default to btw, before I put everything back to my settings.
