End Of Band Of Brothers

quote: Grandpa, were you ever in a war?
In the end of band of brothers [incredible mini-series], the last guy mentions something about:

"And I cherish what my grandson asked me.. "Grandpa, were you ever in a war?" and I replied, "No, but I -[unintelligible]"

Can anybody tell me what it says? I can't find the quote anywhere...

    Oh, yeah. Thanks.

That's a good one. Man, BoB was amazing. Simply.. one of the best things I've ever seen.

    Indeed.

Though I don't think it helps that they got the guy from Office Space in it. I just can't see him in any other role. heh.

Yes it is rather good. The book is excellent too, as are some of Stephen E Ambrose's other works. I recommend Pegasus Bridge for any interested Brits on the forums ^_^

    Citizen Soldiers is also good.

Indeed. I read BoB, then D-Day, and planned on reading Citizen Soldiers, but never really got around to it.

Stephen E. Ambrose = teh bombeh.

I was lucky enough to get Band of Brothers in boxset for Christmas at the one before last. And now that we just got super-high-quality surround sound in the living room, I finally watched it for real- and wow. Just wow.

Agreed, easily my favorite mini-series ever.

I love the last couple episodes after the war is over, the one where they storm the "Nest" is beautiful. I love how they have the German general address his troops at the end.

Yea, anyone who is even remotely interested in WWII should watch it.

You have no idea. I was saying "Sounds like a case of the Mondays." for the whole first 3 episodes.

I'm not sure what Office Space is, but I keep noticing some of the actors in other stuff, which is nice. Two of them are in "Boomtown", if you've ever watched that. It's Donnie Wahlberg and someone else.

Think one of them is in ER too...Scott Grimes maybe..

Ron Livingston, for everyone here saying 'the guy from office space'. He was also in Swingers, Sex and the City, Townies, and 'Two Ninjas' (yeah, NINJA'S!!!).

You'll also see Jimmy Fallon and Tom Hanks in BoB very briefly, plus that fella from Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Dexter Fletcher. What I found interesting is that 90% of the actors on the show were British, playing Americans. Which is, ya know, acting and all, but still it was quite convincing.

And Stephen Ambrose (now deceased from cancer), besides writing all those terrific oral history books, also founded the National D-Day Museum in New Orleans, which should not be missed if you ever visit. Plus you can say hi to MonsE's mother, who is from there.

Simon Pegg from Spaced and Shaun of the Dead also has a brief little cameo, while the Josh-Homme-Look-A-Like Brit Damien Lewis does a great American act as Captain Winters.

Really is a fantastic miniseries, I must say.

A cameo just means a brief appearance or role, which is exactly what Pegg's part is.

    You pedant!

Also, I still wouldn't call it a cameo, but rather a "small part". You can't say every single extra is a cameo.

I loved Band of Brothers. I was really tired when I was watching it one night, and when the battle of the buldge was playing, I cried for like, five seconds, then fell asleep. I missed the rest of it.
