I think having the game drift more back into the days of old would spice things up again... back when you sat down, and 4 hours later you've gotten threw one round cuz both sides came back about 30 times each.... those never got boring.....
but I think there allso right about not playing too much... you should play a few games to keep giving yourself something new, but allso do none gaming things, I tell ya after a long day of swimming theres nothing I enjoy more then sitting down and playing some NS
I remember playing this one server and some one saying guys quick red drawf's on tv, every one going to watch it then coming back again. Just the changes and the new players make it so frustrating to play.
I must agree, I too am getting bored with NS and ive been playing since 1.04. Ever since NS went toward the "competative gameplay" side of things, atmopshere lost its meaning and losing as alien is nowhere half as fun as "last stands" for marines. Im always seeing the same strategies over and over, sometimes game after game, its usually a Ninja PG to shoot down 1 hive, then go siege the other in a big room where marines can sit in the middle killing any main lifeforms *skulks* attempting to stop it. I dont know mabye ive played too much NS and it's time for a break as well until b6

I just really, REALLY want welders to be able to do more than a negligiable amount of damage now! I mea, I miss the days when you weld enemy structures down because it's faster than knifing, and Two heavies with welders can actually hold off a Fade and weld him to death (did it back in 1.04)

ns is different gameplay and absolutly not boring only if played to much as you have with other things in life. and the gorge is fine to me as he is, i don't see the point of a supergorge i'm sorry.
NS has been a really good solid game for quite awhile... I was introduced to it just after beta 5 was released, so I'm sure I've missed quite a bit... I lately have really lost intrest in the game ever since the begining of the month... I'm takin a break right now, hopefully it will regain its full potention in a few days... or maybe beta 6 will redem the game... its probably my most played mod... almost most played game... wish I had of known about it long ago, never rly got advertised... well I must say they have done an insane job on the game and at no cost of the players...
It gets boring if you play every day, cause you will see the same tactic repeated on you atleast 20 times a week then, go play something you absolutely hate, like Counter Strike, then you start liking it and play it for many weeks, then get bored and return to NS, and WHOA people have changed tactics and you have to adjust. I do that alot..that way its always a refreshing experience.

they are wondering if there are other cases like theres... it seems to be a successful thread... basicly all we do in threads is state our opinions, see if anyone relates...
Epidemic... vs. a competent marine team it was well-nigh impossible to get a second hive up in 1.04. And should it happen due to some miracle of amazing skulking and teamwork, by 4:00 to 5:00 hey look, here come the infinite-fuel jp/hmg hive killers. Bloof. God knows my definition of "intense" is "hey look the same team that always loses is losing again in the exact... same... way."
Again, I found that just playing some other stuff tends to reestablish your faith in NS. One time I got bored, decided to load up CS again, see if it was really as bad as I remembered....but, it was worse, so that sent me refreshed right back to NS. Another time, I found as simple a solution as taking Hand Grenades as my first upgrade in CO maps made a difference. No one takes them, so the lev 1 + 2 skulks weren't expecting to turn corners into an explosion that soon in the game, and the reactions I was getting from people were hilarious. It set a more amusing mood for the game, as well as being surprisingly effective for an upgrade that few people take, and really changed the strategies people started using, especially after people really started taking note of my nades after I took out a pair of retreating fades. If something as simple as changing an upgrade can drastically alter a CO game, how about trying a few new relocation spots in a well known NS map? Sure, you may not win every game, but it'll keep each game new and interesting.
I get bored, play some pants matches and then, play siege007 in a pcw and can't stop laughing for a week. Highly recommended <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> - Tink
If i get bored i go on the marine team i find it funny trying to out run a charging onos!
From that statement u can guess that i am purely an alien player i think in the past 2 - 3 years of me playing ns i have been marine 2 times! Why? Because i hate how slow they are the HA could do with some sort of speed i think a JP is slow well compared to a charginf onos and a fade even a leaping skulk is faster than a JP!
It is very rare that eating groups of marines and running 1 or 2 over in the process of getting my target marine gets boring! Infact it has only got boring once and that was when i was ill!
Ns never gets boring for me in all honesty i just try different upgrades and different ways of attacking!
I have been in and out of the community for the last year I would say... I get board with games and then go and do other things... The biggest factor that kind of keeps me from getting overly board with a game is that due to all the things that I do I only get a chance to play any game once or twice a week any more... so I wont play NS or StarCraft for weeks or maybe even months but ill come back to them with I have the time. This keeps me from getting board of many games. But the majority of servers have game changing mods, and they aren't cool. This is a trend that spans every HL mod, and is the main reason (in my opinion) to leave the HL community as a whole. Although I've never played CS:S i hear that already it has been modded, wth?!
Also once a community gets popular, its time to move on, popular may be good for developers, but its just not as fun, this follows with HLs popularity, before the influx of people, the majority of games you played of HLDM or TFC were great, good fun, and ettiquette was followed, then popularity hits, server ettiquette is blown away, and the community is at large torn appart, any kiddie with their parents credit card gets a server, and before u know it you have 7000 highly modded game servers, and the ones you used to play on close, because this new tide of players want to play on the modded servers.
Not that im saying all plugins are bad, but they need to be used in moderation, like drinking pure orange juice or eating cheese.... too much and you will be on the loo for days after!
This fairly new idea of "fun" maps, (allthough years old now) that continually get voted on, those maps simply are not fun, terribly concieved, and I know myself can be made (brush wise, texturing them takes a little longer, unless you just make the brush with the texture already) in roughly 4 hours, but some look less and some look more, but the concept is the same, siege is not (in my opinion) fun, with the only real fun coming from the use of NO turrets or sieges, and use the sheer power of the marines to win. A bit of a testiment to siege don't u think, being fun when siege isn't used....
Also, when someone manages to kill 4+ people within 10 seconds, or less, what happened to "well played"... majority of the time now you see "OMG" "WTH" "you cheat!" etc... thats not cool, many people would take offence to that, although some ofcourse will just laugh it off. Although I know and accept that some people will cheat online games, my first though of someone who appears skilled is "well played", is that due to long term online gaming, or personality, imo the former due to many long term players I know think the same way. (when i say long term, i mean pre HL, or HL from the start of its existence)
A games replayability is ofcourse important, for me, HL and HL2 single player, has no replayability, where as I will still give doom 1 and 2, and the newer quake 3 and rtcw the time of day, where as online games go, I played NS from the start, and only recently have started to fall away from it, I tryed DoD recently, started about 4 days ago, and i'll be honest, although i like the game concept, I will only play with mates, for fun, I can't see myself playing it longer then a couple of weeks. Games have gone a full circle, from back in the day where graphics couldn't matter, playability was king, then the 3dfx era, where playability was pushed aside for looks, atleast ID sofware stuck to playability and looks with their newer games, is that because their older games looked best at the time too?
As for NS, I feel im close to the end of my time with it, not due to the game, having played beta 6, with the small beta 6 community there is, it does rekindle hope, but then you know in the back of your mind that the entire community will get their hands on it... and it sends a small shiver of doubt that it will continue to be fun.
P.S - I'm in no way saying everyone is in the group I have stated in the post, but it takes only 50% of a community to be this way to make things not as much fun. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> A lot of the time simple is better. If you cannot write an interesting story worth a damned, simply don't do it and concentrate on making a game that doesn't require much of a story for good execution(like doom), don't force me to watch(and rewatch) cut scenes with dialog and/or voice acting so bad that it makes me shudder.
I thought doom 3 was pretty awfull, I spent most of my time looking at loading screens, reading/listening to PDA's while looking for yet more PDA's, reloading weapons and walking around in pitch dark, empty hallways. The weapon sounds where downright awfull and monsters only came at you a handfull at a time at most, they had sacrificed the awesome hoards of *synonym for mentaly handicapped* demons comming at you from all directions for a hand full of demons who where so stupid that they screetched to alert you so you where never ambushed or surprised, who most of the time didn't get to spawn before dieing from a shotgun blast to the face and who weren't very dangerous anyhow.
The whole popularity thing though... I think a lot of the problem are directly due to cheaters. Without them good players wouldn't be accused; now mix in newbies who aren't patient enough or know enough tell a cheat from a skilled player and the game becomes a whole lot less fun.
In NS I actually see quite a lot of cheaters, if someone has accused them, forget about it, it's not worth your time to spec them until quite a lot later or sneakily while you are on their team and sitting in the respawn queue. Time and time again you see funky things like people aiming smoothly after aliens while AFK in marine spawn without firing a single bullet and then just relaxing back to staring straight forward when the alien goes outside the aimbots FOV. People _without_ MT who follow a leaping alien as soon as it is around the corner and comes into view, then snaps back to staring straight ahead when it exits aimbot FOV, then their reaction time kicks in after about .2s from the alien entering view and you can see them spin around looking for the alien who just leapt past them. You can sometime see players who have an aimbot bound to one key and regular fire on another, when just shooting skulks or whatever they play as they should and they clearly aren't very good at it, but then as soon as it really matters, they consistently whip out their snap-to-target 180 degree FOV aimbot to take down that pesky fade or lerk. People who consistently SUCK when you are in spectator and feign anger at the "******* n00bs!!!11" who kill them repetedly and expect you to believe they become literally 10 times better whenever you aren't speccing. Then there is the interesting fellows who without any sort of provocation start to verbally abuse you for spectating them even though no one has made a peep about anything and you quitely just slipped into spec after reconnecting to the server with a different player name. Cheaters tend to be really rude even when not accused by anyone which is actually a good way to find potential cheaters, if they are extremely rude and also happen to be on my team I allways spectate them while I am in the spawn queue, most of the time they are just rude people but the percentage of cheaters in this category of people is much much higher. Most cheaters I see DON'T get accused, and most people who do get accused are NOT cheaters, a lot of the time they aren't anything more than decent players.
Pair this up with no kind of anti-cheat whatsoever on 95% of servers and a constant influx of newbies and the afforementioned silly mini MODs, plugins and poorly designed maps which never should have made it out of beta testing and the situation is pretty awfull.

I think it has less to do with the developers rate of change as far as updates go as compared to the fact that people get bored with games after a certain period of time. I know for a fact I used to love playing ns much more then I do today, but I dont blame the actual changes in gameplay for that. Its proabably from the fact that I have played way to many hours to even count for it to possesse that same UMFF as it did before.
hehe yea thats what ive been doing, playing cs wc3 server... its ok... but i still like ns more
Now I'm hungry for some more action though, with my brand new computer <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
It's pretty hard changing tactics when you've been stuck on the same version for the past half year. That was\is my problem at the moment. I get fed up with NS, difert to another game, came back to give it another try after a month, and guess what: no change what-so-friggin-ever. Same tactics, same maps, same shortcomings. Having the same gameplay reitterated for six months sucks, add the fact that NS loses its spark within weeks after each version release, and youve got yourself a winner (or loser).
We're working on it.
When I get bored with a game, I... stop playing it.
Then, if and when I feel like playing it again, I... start playing again.
In neither instance do I make threads on messageboards. I don't understand why people do.
Sorry for spelling its 4 am <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
<!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
A lot of the time simple is better.
