Quick Question (please Answer!)

Hi, I'm a huge fan of first person shooters-despite the fact that I don't play them online very much (with the exception of TFC which I am a huge fan of, I've also recently been Unreal Tournament 2003 over LAN, and thoroughly decimating my friends <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> ). This mod looks really great, it sounds like it's extremely atmosphereic (sp?) and scary, if the alien players play right. Anyway, I was planning on downloading it tonight, but first I had a question. My modem connects usually at 40k, sometimes at 44k. Do I even have a prayer of being able to play this game online AND actually have it be playable? My system specs well exceed what I need to play NS according to your website, but with a dial-up connection does that even matter?

as of this moment NO. i ping 100 on most cs servers. I ping 1000 on most NS servers. On good ns server i ping 200-400. Its playable like that but its still kind of hard to land a nice bite on a marines azz or head.

Supposedly there will be a server side patch out that will fix the lag. If this truly fixes the problem you will hopefully ping what you did on the servers you play on for other games. Its worth trying, you do not want to miss out on this game. It RULES!!!!

As Prince257 said there wil be a patch thatll fix a cpu utilization bug that causes huge lag on heavily laoded servers, but on alot of smaller servers i can get low pings.

And a ping of 200-400 is in no way bad, i usually get that on any online game and it makes playing tuff, but on ns a ping of 500 is still very playable due to some very good netcode.

I get a connection speed of 44,666 all the time and i get a good game so no worrys.

The netcode is actually better then CS's.

However, the Server code currently uses too much processing power to run.

The patch will help ease this, if not eliminate it all together.

    unfortunatly, no.

The closest you can get right now is "When its done."

Also, e-mailing Flayra himself and asking because WID isn't acceptible to you, will only make him code slower and get the same responce.

The beta servers address the RP bug, auto team and a little bit of the CPU problem.

Theres even one with a 28 player limit ...
