<div class="IPBDescription">that will be music to your ears</div> that ladies and gents is a screenshot of one of the many many epic games i have played today, yesterday, day before....

epic games are now a regular occurance on jarhedz (constie server) shortest ive played was a 25 minute one. whether it's the higher than normal skill of the consties or the game finally reaching some sembelence of balance is up to you to decide. free alien upgrades have given the alien team the ability to break hive lockdowns, while simultaneously killing marine early game dominance. some of the map changes are truly, truly awesome, and i honestly cannot wait till we get to play b6 publicly.

    I hope that the games stay longer like that when it gets to public play (as long as both sides have a realistic chance of winning for most of the game). Apparently not everyone likes that idea, though. They should play combat.

    I don't like longer games either, not becuase I don't like the games themselves, but because it's a freak occurence if they get to run their course without some ****wad deciding that it is 'lame' and they don't have time for this etc and drag a few newbs with them to the ready room so the game ends in a walk over. It's just so extremely frustrating to have a great game totally spoilt like that, I have a feeling I'm going to have to find some FF servers in the future so I can at least have the pleasure of ruining their game as a revenge if the admin is not there to ban their sorry behinds.

    Green's definitely got it all figured out. TKing people for F4ing, yeah... sounds like the smart/mature idea that'd make people appreciate NS even more.

    If it's a big server and enough of the people agree to F4 to cause the round to end, you were probably just going to end up a turtle anyway. Just start a new round and get on with it.

    Hmm todd, you believe that the games that will occur when B6 is public will be just like the current long private ones? Also, one big reason for the long private games right now is because aliens can't build a third hive...

    Because they had just killed our arms lab.

    We then rebuilt it.

    The aliens can build a third hive, but not always. For example, earlier today, on eon, they couldn't drop a third hive (but still won). However, the next game on Tanith, we got the third hive up and won.

    finally....

    you guys are really gonna please a lot of the older players (played ns longer and remeber the older versions). those games were so great. i can remember a time where we were at one hive with the other two locked, trying to fend off pg/heavy rushes. it was awesome. the marines just couldnt kill us fast enough <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> we eventually had enough for someone to go fade, take out the res nodes and work on the hives. a gorge to build up res nodes and hives. and finally, some onos to overwhelm double and their base. these are the type of games i play ns for

    I remember a certain game, on NS_Nothing on the Redphive server in the 1.04 days. It lasted for a good 4 hours! Both teams kept winning, losing, winning, losing, aah, it was great (altough 4 hours is a bit too long, it was still fun <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

    Long epic games were what really drew me into NS in the first place... when I didn't see that happening, and games ended up in just who could rush the hardest and fastest, well I lost interest.

    But even since playing B6, and seeing the gameplay get tweaked as we go... well damn. It makes me so happy to see that the games are getting to a point where BOTH competitive play and pub playing will see the best mix of gameplay, and epic hour long games.

    My best game ever played?

    A 2 and a half hour battle on ns_hera (the OLD ns_hera), that was just one struggle after another, and it was so great back and forth. We (alien team) finally won because we were able to get a coordinated rush straight to their base, while the rine team thought they were winning by taking out our 2nd hive.

    Everyone's consenus was the same after that game: "holy crap".

    I believe in strategy games, all teams should start out weak and have few tools that can easily be countered, but as they progress the game, more options become available even with counters. So the more weapon choices each team has, the harder it'll be to find the exact counter. And that's why games should drag on to the latter stages of tech.

    So I say this is a good sign that B6 will be awesome. Even if no real flashy things get introduced (though free upgrades are *from my thread, hehe*), balance is, always has been, and always will be the most important part of any game.

    I don't know what this topic is trying to prove. From my experience, for better or for worse, Beta 6 doesn't particularly affect game length. There have been a couple really long games recently(at least one of them was due to a really crippling bug with not being able to drop hives), but there's no evidence that B6 itself caused them.

    Then add that bug to the fact that all the players know what they're doing, and usually the games are barely larger then 6v6, this topic barely has any voice.

    Long games = fun
    Drawn out games = boring

    What I mean by "long games" is constant action; not turtling in MS or whatever, but constant back-and-forth movement, and when you <b>don't know which team will win until they actually win</b>. Meaning that you can't call the game (aliens lews, ogm f4) from the very beginning.
    Drawn out games are boring turtle farms where nothing happens.
