First shots of ns_vortex

Heh, NS_Vortex is just a catchy name to get you in here, you gullible person, you ;p. The map hasn't been named. It's a vareity of atriums, corridors, and rooms you would expect to see on a ship going a long distance - except it's carrying alot of earth plants onboard, which aliens, I'm going to invent, have an appetite for. Enjoy!

    The shots look great. Very nice, creative architecture. I <i>really</i> like those tall translucent lights in the first shot.

    I've been in the community since the IRC channel was created ... many moons ago. I'm not new, I just have never really seriously mapped before. I like making large terrain-ish maps, you see ... that doesn't fit in NS. So I decided to put my skills toward something that could be used .. and voila! ;D

    Hey Mr. Saturn, welcome back.  These shots are really great.  I'm having quite a bit of difficulty believing that this is your first map.

    I love the cluttered feel in the first and third shots.  It's all very colorful.  I love the walkways and hanging crates as well.

    The only thing I'd suggest working on is your lighting.  There's not a lot of contrast or interesting light falloff in here yet.  Maybe you could use a few less regular lights and a few more spotlights?

    Looking swanky!

    wow, cool looking maps, very atmospheric...however, it might have been nice if i had had a patience and attention span that outdid that of a gnats...i kinda got bored after the second image tried to download...but from what i saw, they're great...maybe i'll come back some time and actually hunker my butt down and look at them all....hey, this is my first time posting in the mapping secion!...i really should do this more often.....

    There's a lot I didn't notice in my first viewing. The infestation dripping from the pipe for instance... and all the damage... Awesome, awesome work.

    of course, if you were more frequent in the IRC room, you'd have gotten a much better view of this map.  And I must say that what's going on in here is just wonderful.  The architecture is great, the general ambient debris and sound is good, too.  I'll admit that I hadn't noticed any defects in lighting while running around, I guess it could be improved upon with some spotlights and contrast.

    I think there's some real promise in this one.

    I must agree, the level (even though it was not large) was very well constructed, and the debry really made the place look like it had been hit hard, without getting in the way too much.
    Only comment I really have is, the button at the start isn't too obvious. I ran around in the little room a little before trying to press it. It didn't have that "PRESS ME" look to it <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    Minus 10 points for extra thick railing, and texture errors on the end of it
    10,000 bonus points for excellent first map, great detail in the last pic, and interesting architecture

    I just noticed this <b>the glasses have a wrong alignment of the texture! They've a vert line in the middle! :o</b>

    Yes indeed, there are several misaligned textures in the shots ... all of which have been fixed, but let's play find the misaligned textures! Go go go!
