Can't Increase Gamma Or Brightness In Ns

It's been driving me crazy for a while. First I thought maybe something wrong with my ATI drivers but now I'm not sure.

Can't increase the gamma much in game and the forced brightness and gamma feature in ATI's drivers doesn't seem to affect NS.

I can always increase the gamma and brightness on my monitor but it'll drive me crazy when I go back to windows.

Are you sure your config.cfg file isn't write protected? If it is, then any change you make to your settings won't work.

it's not write protected. Nothing I do to my ATI drivers increases the gamma.

NS gamma and brightness are purposely low compared to other apps. If you can just see that skulk in the shadows, it's about right.

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat. The problem is you can't force gamma to a certain level because some people have really crappy monitors (as far as gamma is concerned, my monitor is a Philips). On most NS maps I'm fine, but a few are so dark I cant see anything in some rooms, especially during the day, when any kind of glare makes normal viewing difficult. I believe limiting gamma interaction was a serious failing of the dev team, as they have not considered the hardware differences that players have. I even use lightgamma all the time now, and it makes normal maps playable, but certain maps still are not.

You are correct about the crappy monitors i too have a philips monitor and cant see anything. I am able to get round it by using the ATI Cat drivers console. When you open it up to adjust the levels, make sure you have selected fullscreen 3d mode and are not adjusting the levels of desktop mode as this has no effect on games, just your desktop. Once you have done that and assigned your hotkeys so you can increase/decrease gamma in-game you will be able to play NS rather well. But most of us with older CRT monitors will need to get them replaced. I just cant bear to say goodbye to my 21" Monitor!!

Under the "color" tab on the ATI settings thing, are you sure you're selecting "full screen 3d" and then altering the gamma / brightness for NS? It worked for me. <img src='http://stat.livejournal.com/img/mood/ibrad/rotate.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
