Put a sponge on it, worked wonders for me.

Oh wait... that's for feedback issues.

I suggest you test to see whether your mic broken or if your sound card is broken. Try placing it in another input (ie. line in instead of mic in) as well as trying it on other computers. Also, try to borrow someone else's mic to see if it works on your computer.

What exactly is wrong with the mic anyway? Do you just get static, or does the noise sound distorted or do you just get nothing at all?

I get nothing at all. I've tried connecting it to line in, same result. Sound card is fine, its worked perfectly before, and theres no reason for only the mic and line in to magically stop while the headphone jack (speakers actually) works fine. I've tried the mic on another comp. its fine.

try and update your drivers maybe.

It sounds suspiciously like a setting on your computer. If something is broken (hardware wise) you will likely get static, or at least distortion of some sort. Actually, even if nothing is connected to the input, you should get a little static if you turn the volume up a lot, so the inputs could be muted (but it does seem very unlikely though).

If you're absolutely certain that you didn't accidently mute the input and you're confident that the board works fine and that all the settings are ok, then there's not much else I can suggest right now.

While your microphone has been set correctly, have you set up the correct source for the recording input? Can you record from your Line In from a source other than your microphone?

Have you got Microphone/Line In settings muted under Volume Control?
  • OttoDestructOttoDestruct Join Date: 2002-11-08 Member: 7790Members
Fixed it. There was an option asking if I wanted my center speaker in my mic line... all good now.
