Xbox System Link

OK, so tomorrow I'm having about 6 people over and I want to do an Xbox System Link with 3 vs 3. I'm going to get right to the point. Since the official Xbox System Link Cable is pretty expensive, I hear that I can use a crossover cable instead because it sends information bidirectional. Is this true? If you guys can help me out, I need about 50ft and something relatively cheap.

A basic router and ethernet cables works fine (if you have one). I think a cross-over cable works too; I'm not sure what they are, but they sound like what we used once: Went to friends house, had some cords that clicked into eachother (only 2), think it had a switch on it.

Maybe that helps. I'd still suggest a router.
