i just got SOCOM and i think it would be great to play online
is it a case of buying the PS2 cable, and getting a double phone/modem thingy so i can have my PS2 and PC running off the same line? <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
To play socom2 online you must have:
A headset (optional, but really should be reqired) $30
Broadband
"The double modem thingy"=router.
Network Adapter=$40 (unless you have slim ps2)
For a router i would get a linksys berfs1. You just plug it in, no installation required.
Then just get some ethernet cords and wire it up. Its free! (the only game that has a monthly charge is FF11, and who wants to play that crap?)

Well, it's going to be different, we can at least tell that. It won't have any vehicles, any commander mode, or any gigantic maps with lots of different points to capture (unless they feel like making you runn in straight lines for a long time). It also can't look as good since a PS2 has nowhere near the power of an average gaming PC, and it will probably be partially third person like the other SOCOM games. So yeah, if it's not worse than BF2 then it's at least very different.

You DID read it right? Support for vehicles is in S3.
IMO socom2 is like CS when it was in its beta's...the good times. Lets hope Socom3 doesent screw around with what S2 did good.
the network adapter is the official PS2 thing yeah? about £15-20 i reckon, why wouldn't you need it with a slim PS2?
router, the thingy, shouldn't be too much, that's 'just plug it in and it's ready' yeah?
and what are the 'ethernet' cords for? to go from the network adapter to the router thingy?
Thanks for your help mate <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Oh, looks like your talking about Socom 1. Pick up socom 2 for $20 US. (Dont known how much in euros) Dont worry, the headset you have will work with Socom 2.
Dont play socom1 online, it didnt use DNAS (cheat/mod chip detection) so it's rampant with cheaters. I havent seen one cheater in the one and half years ive played S2.
Yes, ethernet cords connect all of the stuff to the router and modem.
If you have one PC and one PS2, you will need 3 ethernet cords. One to go from the modem to the router, one from the router to your PC, and one from the router to your ps2. The slim-ps2's come with a built in network adapter, so you dont need to buy one.
i thought i was buying socom 2, i wondered why it was different from the demo, damn!!! well i will just av to use me other games cos i don't av the money for another one....
cheers <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
<a href='http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=34&scid=29&prid=433' target='_blank'>Router i have</a>
Depending on how far away your router will be too your PC/ps2, you can get different ethernet cord lengths. But here is basically the <b>kind</b> of cord you need:
