Maps coming for the first release....

<div class="IPBDescription">Not exactly about mapping, but :)</div>Ok, I just thought I'd like to ask what maps might be coming in the first beta, or soon after the beta now that the begining of the end has come, as Flayra wrote at <a href="http://www.natural-selection.org" target="_blank">NS.org</a>

So how many cool new maps should we expect to be playing in the first release? <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    I would rather like to know when playtests are going to start, so I know how much time I have left to make my map.

    Hehe, changes in schedule, eh? <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    I wonder how many maps they'll put together with the first beta. If they leave a lot out they should post a link to suggested maps or a link to a ns-map site or something.

    Hope they fill the beta with loads of maps, since download size does bother me. <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

    You would probably have to send your maps in in good time before the release so they can test it or something.

    They could post something like:
    "Send your maps with xth March to get a guarantee that your map will be reviewed to be included in the beta, and if you post within xxth March you <i>might</i> get your map in.

    Did I say they? I mean you, the ns-team. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    My hope is that there will be 4-5 great maps included with Version 1 of NS. One thing I am pushing for is using the auto-patcher functionality included with NSTR2 in the full-release. Then we could have Map-packs as available downloads for those maps that don't make the official release due to time constraints to have a way to get playtime as well a short while later. Or we could just have a 'come and get it' zip file of maps from RR.org.

    Nice, I really like that auto-updater function, would make it really simple.

    It's just like that with the excellent Svencoop mod, to bad they only put one or two map packs on the auto-updater.

    Well, ns_bast and ns_hera will for sure be in the first release. (So long as there aren't any major problems.)

    If I knew exactly when we needed the maps by, I'd tell you.  The reality is, I don't know.  Of COURSE, I'll be extremely loud and clear when announcing anything like this.  I won't suddenly say "You have 2 days to submit your maps for the first release".  I cannot predict how much time you'll have, but I'll be as courteous as possible and try to give you as much time as I can.  Of course, it's also in our best interest to have as many map candidates as possible.

    Kung Fu, don't have a nervous breakdown or I'll never forgive myself.  Don't forget: 1) relax 2) breathe deeply 3) repeat until calm.  No caffeine O.D.s either.  There is time, just keep at it.

    I am aiming to have NS_ONE and NS_NEXT playable by BETA 1.  Maybe not up to official standards but playable.  Filler brushes & func_resources are stopping me from being official ATM.

    If I had another month and a half I might manage NS_SIXTH too.
