Looking pretty spiffy, I must say. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Also read a preview on GameSpy (<a href='http://www.shacknews.com' target='_blank'>Shacknews</a> has a host of links to some stuff) and apparently in what they played there weren't even any monsters coming out from moving walls. Sounds like a winner! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

"Well, you can catch fireballs and throw them back at the enemy"
"Neat, what else?"

"Yeah, you just showed me that. What <i>else</i>?"

I hate a poorly thought through trailer. Shame though, because the rest of it ROCKED HARD. Maybe hard enough to make me interested in D3 again.
I dunno... after the first I'm kinda not too bothered :/
Doom 3 had this feature in place looooong before HL2 was announced/shown. Jedi Knight allowed you to fling objects at people for damage in 1997. In fact, when HL2 was first shown, the grav gun and manipulator weren't even official game features; they officially decided on the grav gun after E3 `03.
Attaching a view model and effects to it != copycat. Inspired in part by the success of the HL2 weapon? Perhaps, but I see no good reason to not believe id's statements that they had considered it a while back but held off for the expansion.
Personally, I think the feedback looks a little better, and I imagine it's been simplified to the D3/id style no secondary fire mechanic - fire to pick up, fire to shoot. Also seems much more effective as a combat weapon, especially given less lax requirements on using it against enemies (there's a lot more small enemies in D3 than there are small metallic grabbable enemies in HL2 <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> ) and many more flung projectiles and fireballs.
If it's fun and well implemented, it doesn't matter where it came from. If it sucks, it doesn't matter where it came from. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
My thoughts exactly.
Actually, I killed around two-thirds of HL2's enemies with the grav gun. I loved that thing. Without it, HL2 would have been a lot more dull.
Well, yes, you could kill crazy numbers of enemies with it, but it was all environment based. Get anywhere without physics objects, or smash enough up, and you'd be forced back to a regular weapon, save for an occasional overwatch gun secondary shot. The Grabber here looks to fill much more of a general combat role, being greatly effective against the small enemies as well as there being more common use of projectiles to turn back on the owner <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

You're right, of course...still, I'd use it mainly for the thrill of killing monsters with my Barrel O' Justice.
You mean the double-barrel shotgun?
SPOILER ALERT
I'm more interested in the heart-thing he was carrying. WTH was that? o_0

1) Most worthless spoiler alert evar. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
2) Not a spoiler; it's been discussed pretty at-length and is a key focus of the entire expansion's gameplay.
3) An artifact, which is an actual weapon of hell (kinda like the soul cube was a weapon against hell). You're being chased by 'hunters' who are trying to claim it back, and as each is defeated you gain a new ability through it, starting with a max payne/matrix-ish "hell time."
Why bother making an expansion for a tech demo, though? They'd make more money making a short lil' independant game for it.
Please tell me that it gives you parachute pants and forces you to dance like an idiot...
Twas just a silly statement, and it was mainly the fireball-grabbing that reminded me of grabbing combine orbs.
I must echo these sentiments.
I demand the time + bandwitdh back! :(
On a more serious note; I've never been a huge fan of D3 so I this didn't impress me at all. They even stole the concept of a grav gun :(
not blatantly HL2 items.
because not everyone has the knowledge that HL2 stole the gravgun.. my initial thoughts, of course, were OMGE TEHEY STOELA GRAVGUN!!! this will be bad for them, at least a little bit.

can't shoot this! *whistles*

Yeah, even if they did steal it I don't really care.
Fun >>> Originality (when will the Japanese learn?)

ok, I just realized how "can't see ****" fits better <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Anyways, the trailer looks promising... we'll see <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
