Tricky Questions

<div class="IPBDescription">Textures and lighting</div> Heya, just started mapping with NS and I have a few questions...

1) First up the textures such as 'wall_lab5' and 'wall_lab5lights' which are obviously a pair (unless I'm way off track). There are also several textures of computer consoles which appear to have the same intention, though it's quite possible they are used differently and I'm going mad! If I understand correctly they are designed so that one texture is used for lighting and one for the visible wall however I can't seem to find any information on how exactly this is done, can anyone uncover the mystery for me?

2) I came across a texture called 'alien_alpha1' (also 'alien_alpha2') which I thought would be great to plaster over a door so it looked all infested. The texture has the traditional blue color which normally indicates that it has transparent parts however it doesn't appear to work like this. Also it is not named with the curly brace as these textures normally are. I later found '{alien_alpha2' which does work as expected (though with black in place of the normal bright blue) which makes me wonder why the other textures are there at all, perhaps just so artists can use them to create new ones?

3) Can anyone tell me what the binds are supposed to be for the function keys to edit the particle systems etc, they appear not to work in game as they are bound to things like 'Quicksave'.

Otherwise, great MOD, loving it so far!

    1) You would most likely use 'wall_lab5' as a normal wall then to make the effects look better use the 'wall_lab5lights' texture as a thin func_illusionary set as an additive right over the wall.

    2) don't know
