<div class="IPBDescription">Are they compatible with...</div> Are PCI-E (or PCI Express) graphics cards like <a href='http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-127-146&depa=1' target='_blank'>this</a> compatible with motherboards that have PCI slots? Just making sure before I decide to buy it. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

No. PCI express cards cannot go into any non-PCI express slots. Heck, last I was told, even regular PCI won't go into PCI express slots.

[edit]Looking at the pictures of the card and the google image search results for just plain "PCI," the people who told me this seem right. PCI express looks like it has a lot more conducting leads across the bottom.

Nope, PCI-E is not backwards (or forwards) compatible with normal PCI slots. The PCI-E slots are a little longer than PCI slots on a motherboard, and black colored. They are always set a little closer to the back of the case.

Like Marik said, PCI-E won't fit in PCI and vice versa, just similiar names.

PCIe designs should be PCI compatable... for some reason they intentionally decided to change the size of the slots slightly so normal PCI cards cannot be used. The hardware is capable of being backwards compatable, but the designs don't allow for it.

No PCIe cards will not and never will work in PCI slots. PCIe cards transfer more data then AGP slots can handle, a PCI slot wouldn't even come close to meeting the nessicary standards in terms of bandwidth.
