<div class="IPBDescription">12.6%</div> <b>German jobless rate at new record</b>

<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->More than 5.2 million Germans were out of work in February, new figures show.

The figure of 5.216 million people, or 12.6% of the working-age population, is the highest jobless rate in Europe's biggest economy since the 1930s.

The news comes as the head of Germany's panel of government economic advisers predicted growth would again stagnate.

Speaking on German TV, Bert Ruerup said the panel's earlier forecast of 1.4% was too optimistic and warned growth would be just 1% in 2005. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

So is taxation. Should we end taxation?

Society is rich enough that it should guarantee a minimum standard of living for everyone living in it. Should we shut down government funded soup kitchens because the people who are forced to go to them obviously haven't earned food?

BTW, I enjoyed the article on proportional representation. It remined me of why libertarians enjoy the same fringe status that socialists do.

What a great idea! Then, when a factory closes down during a recession and lays off a thousand or so employees, they'll just starve to death like they deserve! and leave us wealthy folk alone to drive our gas guzzling SUVs to the mall!

He's not saying capitalism is evil. He's saying that capitalism needs a social welfare net so that people don't fall through the cracks because of bad luck (like a factory closing).

Why should we fund their defense? <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
I've pondered this, and it's really up to the voting citizens to decide on this issue, since militas as a key military force has proven to be...quite inadquate. But heres another thing, why not make national security profitable? Tons of organizations/companies can replace most of the current military. But when a war is needed to be fought, they are hired. But totally self armed.

Publicly funded education, perhaps? If education isn't free, then poor people will just become poorer. If poor people don't have the social welfare support so that they can actually educate themselves, then they will still be poor, working unskilled labor for 80 hours a week, because they can't afford the time/money to go to school.

No matter how educated people are, in an area/time of high unemployment (nationwide or local), you need social welfare supports, or else people will starve to death because they can't find a job, no matter how bad they want to work.

True education isn't free, but there must be some measure of accountablity when it comes so, social welfare does nothing to rehabilitate lower class citizens. So it's nothing more then a drain on resources. Theres no proof that social welfare will prevent people from "starving to death", if anything it's made countries in Europe poorer.

Theres also the belief that as we make education more key that better bugeting and private investment will make it even more affordable then it is today.

Look at all those heavily socialist countries that are poorer than the US, but still have a higher standard of living (the only one that is richer is Luxembourg, I believe, but basically all of the ones above us are more socialist than us).

Without social welfare, what happens to people who can't find a job? How do they get food, health care, shelter, clothing, and education (especially for their children)? Charity is nowhere near as comprehensive as social welfare is and is not financed as well.

I'm all for putting education in the hands of private institutions, but at the <b>very least</b>, it should still be free to everyone who can't pay.

You're a freaking psycho, you know that right? Social welfare gives people money, money they can spend on rent and food. Those things are what are known as "nessesity", you need them to keep living. You WILL starve to death if you can't buy food, unless you commit crime and steal it, that is fact.

"This lesson brought to you by Coke". No thanks. If education is privately funded then it can push a private agenda, like say, a religious one. Or even worse, a corporate one designed to make you believe that you need to buy the next N'Sync CD or whatever. DEAR GOD NO! Public education may be ineffecient, but contrary to popular conservative belief privatization isn't the answer. Hell, corporations aren't really any better then the government when it comes to efficiency, and then of course theres things like what happened at enron. BAD IDEAS ALL AROUND!

The reason why they don't do this is because you're depending on a for-profit institution that doesn't have the needs of it's clients as a priority. The defense industry is beholden to its shareholders, not the American people.

Much like health care, the cost of defense, as determined by the market, is everything that you can afford. Instead of paying a thousand dollars per person on national defense, you will pay 90% of your personal wealth, because you basically have to pay.

So it's nothing more then a drain on resources. Theres no proof that social welfare will prevent people from "starving to death", if anything it's made countries in Europe poorer. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
You're a freaking psycho, you know that right? Social welfare gives people money, money they can spend on rent and food. Those things are what are known as "nessesity", you need them to keep living. You WILL starve to death if you can't buy food, unless you commit crime and steal it, that is fact.

Theres also the belief that as we make education more key that better bugeting and private investment will make it even more affordable then it is today.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
<!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Schools are already being sponsored by Coke and Pepsi. As well as many other companies.

Point being, we don't need government unless it's needed. There is no proof that social welfare can prevent "starvation" anyway. Not only that, charity organizations will spring up in replacement of government.
