Doooom 3

can't change resolution?? :|
i start doom 3... go into video settings.. and change the resolution from 640 x 480 to 1280 x 1024, or 1600 x 1200, or ANYTHING else, and it says "changes will be applied when you start Doom 3 again" or whatever.

so i close doom 3, start it again, and viola, nothing is different, it says 640 x 480 in the settings again.

i tried making an autoexec file that forced it to run at 1600 x 1200: in the video settings it said 1600 x 1200 but the actual resolution was still conspicuously stuck at 640 x 480...

any help?

You need to restart the video system to apply changes. This requires pulling down the console and typing vid_restart.

if closing and reentering the game didnt work, why would that?

It only restarts the video subsystem. If it does work, then something else is going on, if it doesn't, perhaps the game is reverting to 640x480.

If you're using custom video drivers (e.g. Omega Drivers) or a program that fixes your refresh rate (e.g. RefreshLock), then there may be some bug that won't let you run in strange resolutions. I know I can't run HL2 at 640x480 or 800x600 for some reason.

figured it out. pressing the autodetect button gets the game to detect the video hardware: any adjustments after that are saved
