Stuck At "precaching", Need Help

i just downloaded the newest version of NS after putting off trying out the game for what seems like forever..and i am good up to the point where i try to join a game...i see the list, i try to join the game, and everything is fine up till im about to enter the server - then the color on my monitor kinda messes up a little and the screen starts flashing...and thats where i get stuck...i then have to press escape, disconnect from the server, and repeat.

everything else works fine..i can alt+tab, nothings wrong in windows, and just pressing escape brings me back to the server list in NS...anyone know what the problem is?

try to update your video drivers
make sure you're in openGL mode
turn off your hacks
