Viva La Revolution!

Saw this on Shacknews...

Today Nintendo released some small details concerning their new console system, codenamed Revolution, their plans for the DS, and other things.

Most interesting thing in my book: Revolution will be backwards compatible w/ Gamecube games. Hooray! :D

Also interesting is that the big N is planning on setting up DS Wi-Fi hotspots around the US...

Man, they finally embraced online gaming. Ain't it beautiful.

Good to see the big N is still in the fight, for a while all the hype about MS and Sony had made me fear the big N was going to drop off the map. This was probably their most trying time(introduction of XBox, introduction of yearly-game plans by big companies, etc.) So if they stuck it out through all of that and intend to keep competing, I think they'll do fine. : ) Probably even better. IMO, Nintendo makes some of the singular most fun games out there.

Backward compatible Nintendo console + second generation Xbox without inherent HDD and no backward compatibility + Sony hoarding the now fairly poor FF franchise and forcing limits of GTA games = one more more Nintendo console sold...

Wow, there is hardly any information on there about the Revolution. I'm a Nintendo fanboy so I really really hope they can tough it out and earn their rightful place once more at the top of the market. I was very afraid when I heard that the next system would have some new controller technology, thinking along the lines of something stupid like the eyeToy. Fortunatly it seems (based on earlier info) that they're just implimenting some sort of normal controller that can be tilted to control stuff. or something.

My hopes are high now, go Big N! Without you, console gaming is dead!

I was thinking that too, but even Big N's prez said in the article, it was too early to talk about it. I'm sure all will be revealed soon enough.

In what ways have they kept it alive for the past few years, then?

Unless they can replicate the awesomeness of a X-Box I have no interest.

Or if it involves the use of a orphan's soul!
    That would be pretty cool.

Ah who am I kidding, i'll buy whatever console has MGS4 on it.

    You, sir, win.

I always hoped Nintendo would do this.

As long as Zelda is around, i'll be sticking with Nintendo.

Nintendo went downhill since the N64.

I wouldn't say they've really gone down hill, so much as been overshadowed, the GC definately has some majorly fun games on it. (Anyone tried the new starfox? It kicked ****! ^^) Xbox has really tractor-beamed in a lot more people into the market, XBox and PS2 certainly have some good games, but nothing can really compare to the old-school fun factor of a lot of the Nintendo series games and games on the Big N's current platform.

Just my oppinion at least. : )

Don't forget that the entirety of the SP-RPG market is dead.

Who knows. I just like the free Wi-Fi for me

Seconded, does anyone remember the first ever Final Fantasy games? They were the best, and on a Nintendo console.
