    No, you will need a working copy of Half-Life 1.

    Hi,

    Freeze WaterBoy before you make any more mistake <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    If what this post says is right, then it depends on the version you have of HL 2.

    No offence meant to anyone here, but if you read the sub-title of the post, you would have seen HL:Source. This special version of Half-Life is only available to people who have purchased Half-Life 2, either Silver, or Gold (Collectors Edition) via the Steam Game Delivery service (at the moment). This means that BobbyBoy has got a qualifying product, the only mistake that he's made is to open up HL:Source, instead of "classic" Half-Life.

    Seeing as you've got the Collector's Edition (like me), you have all the Valve catalogue bound to your Steam account. All you need to do is just download the files for Half-Life, not the Source edition, then run the Training Room (New Game-> Training Room), finish it, to familiarise yourself with the basic, marine based moves that the HL engine is capable of, the quit, and follow the above instructions for installing, then running Natural Selection.

    Have fun playing NS.

    Lt Patch,

    Isn't that exactly what was mentioned in my post?

    Edit: I think I know what you mean.
    He mentions HL:source :
    I was immediatly thinking about HL 2, as that is on source
    But of course it is also very likely that the poster meant HL1 : Source.

    Your post indeed clarifies that possible misunderstanding.

    But other than the quote of nearly an entire post. No-one has actually told BobbyBoy to not use HL:Source. Even the instructions that you quoted don't differentiate between HL, and HL:Source...

    In my experience, people will mainly just follow half of the instructions that you give. Most people will look for something that vaguely matches what you told them to do, and just think "Oh, he must have meant this..."

    As far as I know, none of the guides explicitly say that you can't run Natural Selection under Half-Life:Source. Most of the just say Half-Life. Seeing as in my person My Games list, Half-Life:Source appears 2 entries above Half-Life, I reckon that most people will just see both versions as the same game, and not knowing that one is powered by the Source engine, hell, most people don't even know what an engine is, referring to games...

    BobbyBoy is making the perfectly ligitimate mistake of not reading fully the guides, and then asking for help if he doesn't understand what is shown to him. Most people do this, but BobbyBoy has the edge in that he's actually asked someone else for help, even after his mistake.

    Guess i didnt make the connection. Looks like you can play just fine, just download Half-life 1 through steam and run the training course at least once before you install.
