My Time In The Ns Community

<div class="IPBDescription">Ahhhh yes</div> First off, I might say that this is my 1337th post. I have been anticipating this for a few days...for some reason <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> .

But anyway, I wanted to make MY 1337th post a big deal...seeing as I am leet.

My trip through NS begins summer of 2003, as I see my brother playing a game that, not only looked interesting, but wasn't counter-strike (which he usually played, I always hated it. BTW, he still plays, and he quit even trying at NS. He said it took too much work). I asked him what it was, and he says "natural-selection...it's really stupid though". However, I felt an urge to play it...I needed it.

So, for a couple weeks I begged my brother to play it, and he said no. So, I went over to one of my brother's nerdly consultant's houses, and had his brother show me NS. It happened to be the coolest thing EVER, and I was hooked. I would get up during the summer, and daily before I left for the beach I would play NS. I sucked, but it was ok...I was learning still.

However, after Christmas, we got a nasty virus, and my brother (since he shared a computer with me at the time) blamed it on NS. He refused to let me reinstall it. After much pleading and begging, etc. He allowed me to DL it again. I couldn't seem to get it to work though...why not?

I got my brother to help, where he responed "it won't work on our computer". I was frustrated, and angry. I went to my brother's nerdly constant's house again, and he said that he wasn't surprised he said that. He explained to me that natural-selection was now on a program called "steam", and that I needed to get it.

So, the next day I asked my brother why he had lied, and he said that he had friends on steam, and he didn't want me on his account because they would talk to me. So, I decided to take it up to my mom...who tried, but couldn't do anything about the situation. I decided to force my mom to buy me Day of Defeat so I could play the game (since I couldn't find any less expensive games, as Half-Life wasn't in stores anywhere).

So, I installed Day of Defeat, got steam, etc. Then I installed NS. I had a fun time playing 3.0 that night, and I realized that I sucked bad as lerk.

The next day however was not as good as I thought it would be. I rushed home to play NS, but I found out that it wasn't on the computer. I was shocked - I tried to find out where it was, but it wasn't there!

My brother came home and told me that he hadn't done it, and he installed NS properly for me (along with telling me how stupid I was, and that I can't do anything without him). So, I played NS.

However, the next day I got a wierd error - "your cl.dll differs from the servers". My brother had no idea what it meant. I wondered if a new version came out, and he said that "I was dumb because it would update through steam." He called a different, yet even more nerdly friend...who said that I had to install a new version. My brother proceeded to blame it on me.

So, I played NS. For a long time.

After a few days, I loved NS so much that I made an account on the forums. I suggested my first idea, which was shot down quickly. I vowed to never come back again.

But I couldn't resist. I had to come back, it CALLED me back. The majority of my first posts were, in fact, in I&S. Many consisted of new game modes, and things to that nature.

New versions came out, my post count increased. During the summer though, I felt compelled. I posted on the forums that "I had quit NS". I stated that it was due to the fact that it was summer, and I had better things to do. After this summer, I continued, I would have no need to play NS.

But I was wrong. After only a month I came back, and posted more frequently than ever, and played that much too.

After that, I proceeded to get angry about release dates, etc. I got especially mad about the forums being down - I was attached. I donated to consti in February, best thing I've ever done. And that brings me here, to my 1337th post.

I have to say thank you the the NS community. I'm extremely glad that you've sucked up so much of my life with this wondrous game. Hell, since I started playing NS my grades have all gone up, so I can assume safely that NS has improved my grades.

- Sinkler.

/edit: I feel as if I've depicted my brother incorrectly. No, he plays football and runs track. He isn't a complete nerd.

I hope I never make it to a 1337th post. I've been registered on these forums for a long time, I run a server, play regularly, and love this game. That's just too much reading/responding just to not be taken seriously.

Too many people immediately shoot down any ideas you have, and instead of posting a relevant reply to your questions they flame you for not searching.

I only scimmed the story buy from what I got... you love NS and your brother is a real pain in the butt... am I far off?

anyways... I remember all your ideas back in I&S.... I had a lot of laughs over them... some were pretty bad but I must admit some of your insights were pretty good as well... I guess thats how it is with most people, some good and some bad. but anyways.... I just wanted to let ya know I remember reading you in I&S way back in the day at least a year ago

    Pffft. Mine was better.

None the less, I'm glad your experiences with the NS-Community have been positive. I hope they stay that way for your tenure on these forums.

My l337th post got wasted somehow back before the old site, when my other posts got flushed.

I had a post like this a couple months ago, depicting on personal history and public interaction. Much cheers.
Summer of 2003 is when NS really started to pick up and was still a lot of fun when people were like "Woah, thats awesome" in November 2002.

EDIT: And lagger, you do realize that, that animation is not a cow, but infact a bunny?

In the American Civil War there were french leaders that trained some of our soldiers. The bunny is something like that. Also notice that fact it has a fluffy piece of food on its head, its obviously no ordinary bunny.
