No, Really
http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=0...168219&from=rss

Well, not for the cube, but for the Revolution and DS. Even better news as it is FREE, and hopefully have a better interface than Sony. DS will have some odd games like NintenDogs, Electroplankton and Animal Crossing (will be online), while cube owners can look forward to the new Zelda, and boy does that look sexay!

Only for two games, and those were both PSO games. Both required a monthly fee I believe.

I read the keynote speech. Deducting the customary 50% rethorical-crap-charge I bring against any big commercial announcement, it was still closer to my thoughts on gaming in general and what gaming should become than anything else I have heard in the last twelve months. I sincerely hope they manage to pull this off.

I'm just glad that my DS will finally be getting some use with this new online system for it. Right now there really aren't many good games for it yet.

Say, do you think that with that wireless router that's supposed to be in the DS, that if you are in a hotspot, and someone is close enough to access you but not be in the hotspot, that you could provide internet to him?

Would that work?

yeah it was just PSO episode I & II, and PSO episode III: C.A.R.D. Revolution that were the GC onliners unfortunately and as nem says they were monthly fees (plus it was too much hastle to get a keyboard).

I hope ninty fufils it's new online-view in all countries... I'm sick and tired of having perfectly good netgames denied to me just because I live outside of the US/Japan ><
"hey we've got this resident evil online game... think the europeans would want this with the online parts still in? naaaahhhh... Lets remove them from most other games on the PS2 while we're at it if we even bother giving them a version of it at all" ~fume~

You need the broadband adapter for the gamecube if you want to link two cubes up for 8-player Double Dash, too, if I recall. Could be wrong.

Sweet, free online with my DS? I just hope my Condo Building is a hotspot! I wonder what's going to be the nearest hotspot. Wouldn't the DS need some updating for the net connection?

If you had a wireless router, you could always connect using that. Probably

I always knew Ninty would do this sometime.
As long as they pull it off, i'm sure as hell not complaining

As far as I'm concerned, it all rests with Advance Wars: DS. I'm only going to bother getting a DS when AW:DS comes out, and it's probably the number 1 game I'd play online.

Then again, everyone will play with Kanebi, most likely.

Thing is, most of the other generals aren't that good....

I mean, take Sami, Frikkin useless usually.

Kanebi is too expensive! As nasty as his name is, Sturm owns Kanebi. His superpower rofls the other team.

What? The thinly disguised Nuclear Bomb

Sturm doesn't really count as a fair CO in AW2. He's blatently cheap. You should only be able to beat him when the AI is controlling him (see: Missile Plains, War Room map). It's like saying that you can beat Flak, but the other way around; you should never lose to a Flak. He sucks.

My beef is that he's way too good for his cost. His infantry is better than Sami's, his tanks are better than Max's, his artillery is only beaten by Grit, etc. etc. His high defensive power, by contrast, softens specialist COs' advantages, and his awesome troops can make the most of his opponent's weaknesses.

The only flipside is that CO powers which knock off 2hp really hurt him.

I actually used andy a lot... I love being able to mass repair when the going gets tough

I'd go sammi more often but the extra troop power is hard to measure in usefulness... I've had battles where it's a waste of space and ones where it's won me back from the brink of defeat (I fended off a mass attack that destroyed all my stuff by mass producing troops and killing the tanks off with numbers... in the end I routed them and reclaimed my bit of the map. Heck how I loved those multiplayer games ^^ ).
• SnidelySnidely Join Date: 2003-02-04 Member: 13098Members
I never really got to play much multiplayer, sadly - I don't know any gamers interested in strategy games. ):<

I can see Sami, Colin etc. being much better when grades don't matter, though. They both rely on mass troops to be effective.
• GeminosityGeminosity :3 Join Date: 2003-09-08 Member: 20667Members
Only real downside to the multiplayer was waiting while everyone else takes their turn... the more players there are the worse it gets :s

We played a lot of 3 and 4 players which while fun could take a while.
