Well, it's simply that "bad" food is cheaper and easier. Kids in UK primary schools are fed lunch at around 35p per child. Kind of sickening, really. A 35g bag of doritos at my local store is 45p.

<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->It only takes about an hour to make; twenty minutes of that preparing food, the rest is waiting for the pressure cooker to come to pressure/waiting for it to cook. I'll have enough to feed two for a couple/few days.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Within the time it takes you to prepare that, you could have some oven chips, baked beans and chicken nuggets all cooked and served up, with much less effort involved. A parent who works a full schedule isn't going to want to spend more time than is "necessary" making food, especially when "instant" alternatives are available. Not to mention your average parent isn't a good enough cook to make a healthy alternative meal look appealing enough for children.

Yes, for the first day. The second, third and sometimes fourth days, it's less than five minutes to heat up.

I don't know what the solution is. Apparently, in that "Jamie Oliver's School Dinners" show (can't remember exact name), where he sets out to feed children healthy school dinners, parents smuggled in burgers and chips for their kids to eat instead of the healthy food. :/

Red meat's rather unhealthy, compared to cooked meat. Do I really need to explain why?
Plus the fact that "condiment" used to mean "butter" or "egg", which are decidely less healthy than simple ketchup, mustard, or pickles.

Sky, in my area, red meat is meat that comes from cows, regardless of how long it is cooked. That's why I was confused.

That's not actually true, not earning much is no excuse for eating a bad diet. Fatness among the poor in the UK imo is down to.

Lazyness (cba to cook something healthy/sit on idle **** watching trisha all day)
Ignorance (are not aware what is healthy to eat because they are stupid)

When I was a student I managed to live on a balanced diet for under £20 a week. The eggs might not have been free range and the pasta was tesco cheapo variety for example but it kept the cost down. So if I can manage it then I think there's no excuse for poor people not to be able to.

French ppl don't have problems with fat because their meals are only half the size. If we would just eat a lot less everyday we wouldn't be that fat.

I can go to the store, buy £10 worth of processed food, and live off eating that for about a week.

Going out and buying non processed ingredients for comparitive meals with an equal budget will last a few days at most unless you're making generally unappealing (to most people, like children) stuff (ie. lots of vegetables)

A family on a shoestring budget is simply just going to live off of cheap sausages, chips and other processed stuff. Because it simply is cheaper.

    <b>*UPDATE*</b>

I watched about an hour of the BBC America channel, and they were showing Grahem Norton's show from when it was back in the UK, and I would just like to say that from my own scientific observation (read: not scientific at all) of both the audience and the commercials for that one show w/ the women who are telling people they dress like crap, that yes there is an abundance of fattys in euroland.

That one chick from the fashion show thing is pretty hot too.

    That is all.
