<div class="IPBDescription">one that's fancy</div>My DVD player died, so this weekend I'll be getting a new one.
I've currently got a little extra cash, so I'd like to get a nice one.
Ideally, I'd *REALLY* like one that's an 802.11b/g device that can stream media (mpeg, divx, quicktime, etc) over the network, but I doubt they make those yet.
It would be a plus if it can read DVD+R/DVD-R because occassionally I'll burn an internet movie (<a href='http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/115368?htv=12' target='_blank'>Computer Boy</a> FTW) onto DVD to watch on the TV if its really good. Not a priority at all though.
My current TV only takes Composite/S-Video, so RGB outputs aren't a big concern, but they'd be nice because hey, who knows when I'll be getting a new TV. :P
I assume Progressive Scan is something I want, though honestly I haven't read up on it.
For all practical purposes, my only real requirement is that it 1) isn't crap and 2) works w/ the universal remote from my DVR box. heh
So, any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure that's standard now, even in the cheap DVD players.

it looks pretty cool but im not real sure.
It's around $100, but its a nice burner and worth the price <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Not every customer knows what "interlaced" means, though.
Be sure to get a DVD player with volume compression (or dynamic compression). That way the highs won't be so high and the lows won't be so low in the volume department. I really tire of the whisper-to-scream scenes in movies, especially when living in a town house/apartment/condominium.

^^ One of them, softmodded, put on <a href='http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/' target='_blank'>XBMC</a> for a full media centre, DVD-x for playing discs of any region and using things like bxStream (Sorry, i can't remember if that name's the right one) you can stream media from your pc straight to XBMC, but unfortunately that's wires only, but still.
Oh yeah, apparently the thing plays games too.
does anyone have any experience with this <a href='http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=387' target='_blank'>D-Link thing</a>?
Or this <a href='http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,115165,00.asp' target='_blank'>Gateway</a> thing?
Or this <a href='http://www.govideo.com/Index.asp?GV=D2730' target='_blank'>GoVideo one</a>?
Then again, RadioShack doesn't exactly have the high end GoVideo DVD players, I have used one once while I was working on some video editing my shop. It did work well, except the network I was using became very stressed while I was trying it out.
Anyone else heard anything?
(This is a cleverly disguised shameless bump. I'm so clever)
