<div class="IPBDescription">Want some tips before I take the plunge.</div>Since I'm an idiot, and I buy fancy electronic gizmos to make up for my other failures in life (its slightly less expensive than a Heroin habit and prostitutes). I've now got my sights set on a HDTV, because the one I have now is... well.. its a wal-mart apex model. :P
So, before I plunge into the world of HD, please answer my few questions and also if anyone has words of wisdom, please share. If anyone else here does own a media center pc and/or an hdtv, please tell your tales, be they good or bad.
First off, I'm not made of money. $800 is my absolute limit as far as HDTV's go, though I had a $600 one in mind.
- I have a small living room, and 27" is all the tv center can hold, and so I have no need of a large TV, and thus can save $$.
- I'm most likely getting a CRT rather than an LCD. Since its a smaller TV, will this matter?
- I'd really really really really like to hook up a media center PC to this sucker
- 720i/p or 1280i/p? I know there's a difference, but is it worth it in price?
And now, Windows Media Center questions:
- AFAIK, the media player is just fullscreened windows media player 9 or 10, right? And likewise, ANY codec you get to play on the thing is going to play just fine on the TV, right?
To anyone w/ a HDTV AND windows media center AND cable:
- my digital cable provider gives me a set-top box to recieve the HD channels. Is there any way to get that signal to go through the media center pc's hdtv tuners instead? Would I even want to?
Basically what I'm getting at is, I know I won't be able to get the best HDTV, however will I be able to get one that's 'good enough'? And would a media center pc be worth it?
Thanks for any advice guys.
You know what's really funny? All this started with "my DVD player died..."
