Well I think I have a pretty good feel and believe its time for some of these to be posted so here goes!
Marine Build order v.10(BETA)
1.) Spawn's! at least 2 THEY SHOULD BE BUILT FIRST!!!
-without them you get no reinforcements
2.) Armory
-ammunition is the lifeblood of marines, Marines with only knives = dead marines
3.) Soon as your armory is up build your turret thingy(I don't know the actual name)
-then place at least 2 turrets by your main base enterance(mileage may vary)
(building welders would be nice now too, you're going to be attacked constantly by little green things, that is if they havn't already wiped out your base and your peeing your pants inside the command console as they chew at your last line of defense)
4.) By now your guys should have found some more resource locations.
-build resource collector
-turret control
-2 turrets(expand as needed to guard IMPORTANT enterances)
-armory
(most of your resource locations should consist of the pieces in step 4, this setup establishes a nice base of operations keeping those pesky pawns...um I mean Soldiers from requesting ammo every 5 seconds, and giving them a nice defensive position )
5.) Stoping the hive from spreading
Don't worry to much about upgrading(remember the aliens need 2 hives before they become a large threat and if you've ever been a gorge scared &*&%$ by waiting for those resources you know what I mean, but were gonna take care of that now, or rather we'll limit them to 2, it takes a gorge sometime to build up enough resources for a hive, so shoot on site)
-Your well organized team of soldiers(pawns, peons, etc....) should have found a hive location by now. Build a complete fortification using the resource location formula(save the collector, unless theres a resource near by, only add more turrets.
-another good thing is to place health packs around so your soldiers will walk accross them keeping their short lived lives a little longer.
(rinse and repeat step 5 as other locations are found)
6.) The communications array, it's cool, it works, build it(enough said)
7.) Now that you've got the bugs under reasonable control, build an arms lab, proto lab. And start upgrading your armory.
8.) Teleporters
-one at each resource location is essential to good defense, one at each hive location should be mandatory.
9.) start upgrading that arms lab and proto lab(a.k.a. researching)
10.) you should have a good amount of resources now, and marines whining things like "We want HMG's, we want nades, we want armor, we want packs"
-indulge them
-continue fortifying your defense, and enjoy the fact that you are a kick arse commander that people like.
General Game Play:
- If you hear soldiers under attack, hit the space bar. Drop your troops health, and ammo, a good commander can keep deaths to a minumum by healing his troops and providing them with ammo.
-listen to your soldiers, although you like to make faces at them and play god with them, they are still your most important resource. A Commander is nothing without his marines, and vice versa.
-soldiers have a better view of the battlefield than you do, so when he says we need turret in bla bla location because the aliens keep coming thru that vent, he's usually correct.
-Shotguns are the best defense against Skulks get them as soon as possible.
Assaulting the hive:
-Commanders can play a big role in this. When your troops find the hive, build a turret control, 3 turrets guarding the control, and then those beautifull siege cannons.
-Siege cannons take out old buildings, and nuke new ones usually taking the unsuspecting gorge building a new one out in the process(they hate that ).
-Equip your men with HMG's, Heavy Armor, and welders(they can repair each others armor this way)
-Drop health packs, and ammo like there going out of style
Hope this helps people start off their adventures of commanding, it's fun, but hard, you gotta please a lot of people, but when you hear the Team 1 has won it's all worth it.
Have fun,
