yeah, I am 100% sure the SMG is held this way and thus has a lot of wasted 'hole' space:
If you think about it Dark Soul, if you're drawing it on the fly (for practical purposes, lets say in real life), the bigger the hole, the better your odds are that you'll be able to get it up fast enough. Don't wanna snag your thumb on part of the gun.
you based this somewhat off the p90, right? at least the handle part? i've been trying to figure out where i've seen handles like these and i just remembered the p90 <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The length of the hole that the trigger-hand grip is in is meant to cut down on the overall weight of the weapon (considering it is supposed to be a carbine, signifying low weight amongst other things) aswell as some of the other reasons mentioned above.
Plus without it the stock would look uber-plain and uninteresting. (gogo first ever finished model ftw)
(Yes the foregrips were based loosely on the P90 style)
It looks very good Jesus, but would it be possible to add some sort of aiming device to the top "rail" part of the gun? The flatness looks a little odd.
I understand the part about having the large open area to reduce weight, but then you look at the back of the gun and there is a huge mag well which would add a good deal of weight to the end, making it back heavy.
Maybe there is some way to cut down the "weight" factor of the back, or increase the "weight" on the front?
you compare the size of this thing with a standart marine and with the standart human meassurements. this weapon is definetely too long, especially if you want it to be a carbine, you dont need to safe weight by making this "thumbhole" larger, you should shorten the rear part of the weapon. if you dont believe me you just have to calculate it: - you need at least 30 millimetres in height for the trigger (or whatever unit you use in your country) - look at the gridsize of the trigger and compare it with the lenght gridsize of your weapon - divide the length of the weapon with the height of the trigger - multiply the result with 30 and you will have your weapon length in millimetres
(hope I didnt made as mistake, Im pretty slow today...)
make shure that the length from the "gripping position" of your thumb to your shoulder should be - less than 320 mm (h&k g3 for example and its pretty uncomfortable, although I dont have short arms) - more than 250 mm (p90 for eample, which is pretty short in my eyes and you will smash your elbow at a doorframe with it if you dont care about how you hold the gun )

The P90 SMG is so dreamy... <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Besides, it looks cool like that :o

Also begun meshing it, but I'm crappy at meshing so if anyone could give this model some decent maps I'd be very appreciative.

Dont blame me if the marine looks weird though, I can't animate.

hm... doesnt look "right" to me after all, you are right.
I actually can't mesh this to save my life.
(Needs mesh + skin + animate + compile kthx comrades)
