<div class="IPBDescription">strange lag on CPU on laptop</div> Im running a AMD Athlon XP Mobile 3000+ clocks at 1.8gig
radeon 9600 mobile
512mb RAM

all on a laptop, but i get a weird CPU lag when im in HL :S

Its like if i press console it wont appear for a few seconds and also like my movements are slowed down light mouse reaction etc....... I dont have any programs running in background and did a symantec virus scan an it was fine :S

When i do ctrl-alt-delete an look at processes my CPU reaches 100% when even move the steam window around but mainly inside NS it sticks on 100% usage...

Cheerz,

I've had that problem before on Direct3D mode, for some unknown reason. When I went to OpenGL, it fixed it.

D3D appears to be more CPU intensive than OpenGL mode.

Remember, Athlon Mobiles support AMD's PowerNOW! technology, which alters the clock speed every now and again. In normal use, it lives up to it's instant power boost, however, during games, I have known the worst case to be around ahalf a second between a full CPU request being made, and the frequency being adjusted accordingly.

This might be a sinple problem of PowerNow! affecting the pwerformance. Unfortunately, most laptops with PowerNow! are hard coded, so you normally can't disable it. Check the system BIOS, and see if there is an option for disabling it. If you are lucky, and can disable it, then chances are you might see a performance increase.

Remember, PowerNow! is designed to maximise battery life, not game performance...
