"Of course, Freak83 had skin scrapings from his assailant under his fingernails. Normally, this would make it easy to identify his murderer, but in this case... well, see for yourselves." Talesin pressed a button on his remote control, and the widescreen display in the conference room flickered to life. "This is a standard human DNA. And this," Talesin changed pictures, "is what I found under Freak's fingernails. It's not human. In fact, it's probably not even terrestrial. To be quite precise, this technically isn't even DNA. It's somewhat close, and probably fulfills the same purpose, but this is something I've never seen before, so I'm guessing. I believe what I have here is alien tissue. There's something on this ship that isn't human." Several of the crew could be seen shifting uncomfortably in their chairs. "Yeah, about that," brute force interrupted. "That makes no sense. Renegade's scan revealed only eighteen lifeforms - us seventeen and the captain. And we are all here. Where would those aliens be, if I may ask?" "Well, right among us, perhaps?" said Nemesis Zero. Now it was BadKarma's turn to speak up, shouting over several other raised voices: "I must protest! That scan was against due procedure and violated standard regulations 406, 407 and 409 through 417! According to protocol, disciplinary measures include up to--" "Shut up! This is not the time for your pedantery! Unusual situations call for unusual measures! Would you rather that we sit idly and wait for those THINGS to kill us off one by one?!" wonedslackystyle was on his feet, leaning in over the table, shouting at BadKarma. All around the room, people rose to their feet, glaring at the two and at each other. Angry shouts flew back and forth. The tension was palpable. Only the sound of a fist slamming full-force into the table, slightly denting it, caused the shouting to cease. brute force idly rubbed his hand where it had hit the tabletop and spoke: "It's important that we remain calm. We can handle this, but we gotta work together. This is not the time for infighting. Talesin, what do you suggest that we do about this?" Talesin was about to speak, but SaltzBad was faster: "Blood tests. All seventeen of us. That should give the attacker away, right?" "Yes," replied Talesin, slightly perturbed at being interrupted, "and I suggest we do it right away." "Fair enough," said TheMuffinMan.
The samples were quickly taken, and Talesin set about analysing them with the help of im lost. In the meantime, he encouraged the others to stay in groups and not wander off alone.
"Sabotage I say." Swiftspear and wonedslackystyle were looking at the charred remains of the sublight inertial pulse drive's main and secondary accelerator disks. "It's one thing for the drive to fail. If the destabiliser coils overheat, the accelerator disks burn through. That's a probable malfunction. But the ship slowed down first. And I never received an alert notification either." Swiftspear summed up. "Not to mention that this was set to a timer. It happened while we were all in the conference room, unable to respond." wonedslackystyle added. Sky and Cold NiTe returned with a set of spare accelerator disks, and Swiftspear placed them in their fittings and closed the access panel. "Should work now," he said as he turned on the sublight drive for a test run. But the test run lasted only mere seconds before the drive went into emergency shutdown mode. Swiftspear ran over to the panel and popped it open, only to be greeted by a thick cloud of smoke. Wearing heavily insulated gloves, he hefted the burning accelerator disks out of their fittings and dropped them to the floor as the heat started to burn through the gloves. Sky rushed to the scene with a fire extinguisher, first spraying it into the access panel, then onto the still burning accelerator disks. wonedslackystyle was furious: "I don't understand this! Didn't you check the coils? We checked the damn coils! How did this happen?!" But Swiftspear had no answer for him. For now, they were stuck without propulsion.
wonedslackystyle studied the modified aft sensor array. He had had enough of sabotage and vague theories. If anyone was going to sort this mess out, it would be him. And the first step would be to make sure that he had reliable readings. Readings that he could trust. He bent over the array and started working out how the modifications worked. Absorbed as he was in his work, he never noticed the emitter powering up until it was far far too late.
"I guess you were right," said BadKarma as he surveyed the scene. wonedslackystyle had fallen to the floor only a few metres away as he made a desperate dash to get away from the flaring emitter. "Unusual situations DO call for unusual measures I assume. And I would never have thought about all the nonregulation uses of sensor arrays without your prodding. Hey, sweet dreams."
Players still left in the game: Renegade Talesin TheMuffinMan Pulse Sky brute force Some tall guy Swiftspear im lost Nemesis Zero Hellfire3k Snidely Cold NiTe SaltzBad Mantrid BadKarma
Some tall guy, Psyke and docchimpy get a phantom vote each. This will of course be cleared if they are replaced with another player.
I will need PMs from the guardian (if alive), seer (if alive) and any remaining formtakers before we advance to day two.
(Note: date updated) Day two will begin on wednesday, the 6th of April, 20:00 GMT.
Due to total inactivity, docchimpy will be replaced by Mantrid. Everyone, please welcome our new player.
docchimpy, I am very disappointed. I'll be waiting for an explanation. Unless it's very good, don't bother ever signing up to a TWG that I am hosting again.
And due to all this business with inactives, I have decided to prolong the night for twenty-four hours to get this stuff sorted out. There are limits to how much I can handle at once. Blame them. New date:
Day two will begin on wednesday, the 6th of April, 20:00 GMT.
Due to real-life concerns, Psyke has remained inactive. I'm surprised that real-life concerns can be so demanding that you can't even take five minutes out of your schedule to fire a quick PM my way. Everyone, please welcome his replacement, Hellfire3k!
It is now day two, post away!
im lost powered down the tabletop centrifuge. When it stopped spinning, he removed four small vials. "Last four. These are our culprits. Might as well test them anyway though, eh?" While Talesin watched carefully, im lost inserted the test strips into the four vials and gave each a quick shake before putting them in a holder and seeting a timer to four minutes. Nevertheless, the two could not help but watch while the strips changed colours along a broad spectrum of green, pink and brown, eventually settling on black. im lost sighed. "All positive, just like the rest of the samples. Whatever we're dealing with here, it's very good at impersonating us. And it is killing us off, one by one. Talesin, what are we going to do man? What are we going to do?" Talesin did not reply, but called up a chart on his computer and studied it for a while. "You know, this alien "DNA" of sorts has a specific chemical compund... A serum of sorts... yes, perhaps... perhaps I could synthesize a serum. I wonder how far their transformation reaches... to keep their cognitive functions intact, the nervous system would have to remain unaffected... and it would produce excruciating pain, at least..." "What on earth are you talking about?" asked im lost. And Talesin started explaining.
In the crew quarters, Mantrid, brute force and Hellfire3k were idly passing time. They spoke only little, except for an occasional surly comment from Mantrid. "Why are Talesin and im lost taking so long?" "Has anybody seen Some tall guy recently?" "Now that sensor array has fried TWO people. Somebody should disable it before we all get radiation sick." Hellfire3k gave an exasperated sigh and cast a glance in Mantrid's direction. Finally, he worked up the energy to respond: "I don't know why wonedslackystyle was even messing around with that thing. No telling what he may have been up to. Heck, we might have been lucky that he messed up and ended up frying himself. Anyway, BadKarma says he was there to disable it good and proper when he found wonedslackystyle, and he decided to take it offline uh, how should I say, permanently. That array ain't scanning nothing anym..." and Hellfire3k froze for a second before he regained his composure and almost nonchalantly asked brute force: "Say, what's that you've got there?" brute force could have kicked himself. He had felt hot and taken off his jacket - and in doing so revealed the shoulder holster with the gun. "Sidearm, standard issue. I figure we're in an emergency situation, in which case it is standard procedure for security personnel to arm up. Got a problem with that?" Hellfire3k's body language and voice where dripping with sarcasm when he said: "Oh no, sir, no problem at all. Can I have one too?" brute force put on his jacket again.
"Can you repair it?" asked Cold NiTe. He and TheMuffinMan were studying a monitor displaying a chart of the gravitational core. The semi-intelligent monitoring systems were keeping it stable, but it was only a matter of days before it would fail completely, leaving them without gravity. "Probably," replied TheMuffinMan, "but I'd like Hellfire3k to help me. Freak83 would probably have been able to fix this in minutes, but I'm not as experienced as he was. I was just assisting him. I'd prefer to take the core offline while we do the repairs, but I don't want us to hover around in weightlessness. You know how that always draws all the lint out of the corners. Ugh, when I think about what we found floating around in the bathroom last time... I still don't wanna know which one of us is - or was - into THAT. Anyway, taking half the coils offline at a time should give us enough to work with. We'll handle it."
When Nemesis Zero entered the bridge, he found SaltzBad sitting in the captains chair with his back turned on him, staring at the super-magnified image of the alien vessel on the main screen. "Isn't that just a tiny bit presumptuous? He's not technically dead yet, you know." But SaltzBad just ignored him and kept staring at the screen. "Hey man, that's really rude you know. Who the hell said that you could take the reins?" said Nemesis Zero as he came up behind the chair. When SaltzBad kept ignoring him, he put a hand on his shoulder and gave him a nudge to make him get up from the chair - and SaltzBad's head tipped over forwards and rolled across the bridge. It was only then that Nemesis Zero noticed the dried blood on his neck and down the front of his overalls. As he stood there, deciding what to do, he caught something moving out of the corner of his eye. The alien ship on the screen was growing - no, not growing, approaching.
That was really surprising, I thought that the wolves would have taken the chance to kill off a more active player while they still have their concealment. Did anyone notice anyone that was particularly close to saltz, or anything else suspicious?

Did anyone notice anyone that was particularly close to saltz, or anything else suspicious?

Nope. As far as I could tell, he kept to himself. He made the occasional observation, but that's about it (AFAIK, anyway).
He wasn't all that active either, so I it doesn't figure with MAP Theory. Either way though, we have to assume he posed some sort of threat. Perhaps if we look back at his old posts, we'll notice something he said or did that represented a problem to the wolves. Perhaps he voiced some suspicions that the wolves didn't want voiced. Only one way to find out.
Second, analysis. OK, wolves, whatever you take, get me half the dose. Freak was a logical target, him being a highly experienced player. Saltz, on the other hand, did not yet take part in a TWG match as far as I can see. His only contribution was the proclamation that woned was no wolf, and a subsequent absentee-based vote on docchimpy (welcome, Mantrid and Hellfire, BTW). This leaves a few possible options:

The wolves are simply stupid.

The wolves want to erect a smokescreen.

There is information not found in the thread that led to Saltz' demise. Who knows? He could've been the seer and confined in the wrong person via PM for all we know :/

The only thing we know for sure is that no clear pattern is yet emerging.
Addendum since my brain just started working. Saltz made it pretty public that he did not think woned should be lynched. If the votes against woned were wolf-initiated, it might be that they tried to remove a potential future obstacle in getting two victims a phase.
Me and saltz talked for a bit in a few private conversations, and I doubt that he was the seer and simply made a mistake. He had the first night to seer somebody, so there would be no excuse for confiding in the wrong person. He also came off as quite a smart guy, so I doubt that he made such a massive mistake. Perhaps he was the seer, talked to someone and then that person talked to a wolf, but I doubt it. Without any evidence to the contrary, I think that the wolves just messed up. I also doubt that his protests for woned's innocence made are anything important. Quite a few of us thought that woned was innocent, so why pick off saltz?
It hardly caused a smoke screen because he was not really involved with the game. If he had constantly argued with someone then it would be different, but he mainly kept to himself. The wolves could have killed him off because he had no public connection to anybody and therefore would would leave no trail for us to follow, but none of us have any glaring rivalries at the moment either. The wolves could have easily killed someone more active without appearing suspicious, so why didn't they? Until we can prove otherwise, I’ll go with the "wolves made a mistake" option.
Assumption one: one of the wolves took advantage of the smoke screen created by Slacky.
Assumption two: at least one of the wolves is one of our more inactive players. I don't think this is quite likely; it's been the case in previous games.
I'd say BadKarma and Talesin are fairly inactive. I'm not sure about Cold Nite, I'm sure I've seen him around a couple of times. I'd say TheMuffinMan and Swiftspear are active.
So there's a chance that either BadKarma or Talesin is a wolf, lying low.
I will vote for Talesin. Naturally, if any compelling evidence comes to mind, I'll change my vote.
Man I love this game... So generous on the postcounts >:D
I have to agree with Snidely on all counts, except I think I'm going to have to vote for Im lost rather then talesin. I am somewhat suspicious of talesin because of his quietness, but he seems more strongly opinionated then many of the other quiet players (which is a doubtful state of being in the early game for a wolf). This whole thing with reading through the IRC logs every couple hours and seeing if anyone slipped up... I understand fully why a person would do that priviately, but to then question people on things they said when you were gone, expecially when the statements were jokes and what not... I can't help but feel you are trying to smokescreen yourself with this detective bit.
I haven't quite made up my mind yet... It is still to early to know without input from the seer... I just want to prod a little more activity and action out of you lost, you're a great player, I need to be sure your playing on the right side.

IRC is borked for me, it refuses to connect to gamesurge or something. I'm still a relative newbie at this, so the only troubleshooting I know is to keep clicking the "connect" button...anyways, since I haven't been privy to any of the irc discussions, I'll just say this: no wolfing is a "mistake". Even if the purpose of the wolfing was to simply confuse the hell out of us, every death has a definite purpose. It's simply impossible for me to believe that the wolves would throw one of their wolfings away.

After all of the talk about how the wolves went after an experienced person the first night, it's almost certain the guardian would protect an experienced player, so avoiding experienced players guarantees a kill. SaltzBad was somewhat active, and wasn't very experienced, so he is a decent target to kill. Chances are the wolves didn't have any more information than the rest of us about who the seer is, so I doubt that it had any basis in their decision.
Swiftspear, when I go back and ask about things, it's because they are fresh in my mind after reading over the logs. If I bother bringing them up, it's probably because no one else is talking about anything meaningful to the game (or possibly nothing at all), and I figure it's better to have people talking than not talking.

"Of course, Freak83 had skin scrapings from his assailant under his fingernails. Normally, this would make it easy to identify his murderer, but in this case... well, see for yourselves."
Talesin pressed a button on his remote control, and the widescreen display in the conference room flickered to life. "This is a standard human DNA. "Shut up! This is not the time for your pedantery! Unusual situations call for unusual measures! Talesin, what do you suggest that we do about this?"
Talesin was about to speak, but SaltzBad was faster: "Blood tests. All seventeen of us. That should give the attacker away, right?"
"Yes," replied Talesin, slightly perturbed at being interrupted, "and I suggest we do it right away."
"Fair enough," said TheMuffinMan.
The samples were quickly taken, and Talesin set about analysing them with the help of im lost. In the meantime, he encouraged the others to stay in groups and not wander off alone.
"Sabotage I say."
Swiftspear and wonedslackystyle were looking at the charred remains of the sublight inertial pulse drive's main and secondary accelerator disks.

How did this happen?!"
But Swiftspear had no answer for him.
Hey, sweet dreams."

docchimpy, I am very disappointed. I'll be waiting for an explanation. Unless it's very good, don't bother ever signing up to a TWG that I am hosting again.
Day two will begin on wednesday, the 6th of April, 20:00 GMT.
Everyone, please welcome his replacement, Hellfire3k!
im lost powered down the tabletop centrifuge.
What are we going to do?"
Talesin did not reply, but called up a chart on his computer and studied it for a while. "You know, this alien "DNA" of sorts has a specific chemical compund... A serum of sorts... yes, perhaps... perhaps I could synthesize a serum. I wonder how far their transformation reaches... to keep their cognitive functions intact, the nervous system would have to remain unaffected... and it would produce excruciating pain, at least..."
"What on earth are you talking about?" asked im lost. And Talesin started explaining.
In the crew quarters, Mantrid, brute force and Hellfire3k were idly passing time. They spoke only little, except for an occasional surly comment from Mantrid.
"Why are Talesin and im lost taking so long?"
"Has anybody seen Some tall guy recently?"
"Now that sensor array has fried TWO people. Somebody should disable it before we all get radiation sick."
Hellfire3k gave an exasperated sigh and cast a glance in Mantrid's direction. That array ain't scanning nothing anym..." and Hellfire3k froze for a second before he regained his composure and almost nonchalantly asked brute force: "Say, what's that you've got there?"
brute force could have kicked himself. He had felt hot and taken off his jacket - and in doing so revealed the shoulder holster with the gun.
"Sidearm, standard issue. I figure we're in an emergency situation, in which case it is standard procedure for security personnel to arm up. Got a problem with that?"
Hellfire3k's body language and voice where dripping with sarcasm when he said: "Oh no, sir, no problem at all. Can I have one too?"
brute force put on his jacket again.
He's not technically dead yet, you know."
But SaltzBad just ignored him and kept staring at the screen.

Nope. As far as I could tell, he kept to himself. He made the occasional observation, but that's about it (AFAIK, anyway).

Who voted for Slacky?

QUOTE (lolfighter)

wonedslackystyle - 5 (BadKarma, Cold NiTe, Talesin, TheMuffinMan, Swiftspear)

This was the final count.
Are you talking about me? I wish I could do that, but as others will attest, I get disconnected from the chatroom after a certain amount of time. >.<
You'll notice that in other forums, I edit all my posts. :x

No, im lost does it, he has bugged me about saying stuff I can barely remember like 2-3 times.
Some tall guy - 0.1
Talesin - 1 (Snidely)
im lost - 1 (Swiftspear)
And I'm off for the night. Don't lay awake worrying whether the wolves will eat you.

Okay. (:
Well... IIRC at least a FEW wolfings in the past games were a mistake...
Still, it definately isn't something you can bet on.
You're on gamesurge and you put in the password?
Swiftspear, when I go back and ask about things, it's because they are fresh in my mind after reading over the logs. If I bother bringing them up, it's probably because no one else is talking about anything meaningful to the game (or possibly nothing at all), and I figure it's better to have people talking than not talking.

Personally I think your work is a service to most of us. I certainly don't remember to go back and check player activity as you do. And your IRC logs were useful too. However you are certainly going over things with a fine tooth comb I must say.

Exactly, it's the perfect phasad. Ok, I'm really not convinced that my vote is right here, but this whole loghunting thing just had me kindof suspicious. If you really aren't a wolf keep doing it, but it is just something you never did in the past games, at least to the same degree, and I really don't want to let you slip through my defences simply because we were buddies in the past games. I knowticed a noteable difference in your playing style, and I called you on it, no hard feelings...
For the moment my vote will stay, but that is pretty much because I am insanely lost in this game (OLO IRONY!) and I have only been able to form the vaugest suspicions of who I belive is or isn't a wolf. If anyone has any thoughts I am more then willing to listen.
