Looks like the TW franchise is gonna be a massive melee in which you are no longer in control of vast empires and are instead a single warrior. AND ITS ONLY COMMING OUT ON CONSOLES! Sega bought out CA and believe that they will turn a better profit if they convert it into a title more reachable to the masses and will probably end up sellling a hell of a lot more than RTW. Heres to hoping that they dont forget about the real TW and are currently cooking something up right now for the rest of us.

(oh and i do think that the new game has a cool concept, but i just love RTW too much to let it die)

/edit and the fact that the game has a flame thrower is just kinda stupid, i know that the greeks had their greek fire oil stuff that they used in war, but a WW2 flame thrower, i mean cmonjavascript:emoticon('???')

Don't worry. It's like Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. Just a knockoff console slaughterfest for more money from the license, not the new direction for the series.

how long has that been up and when was it first announced, any other evidence to back it up?

    Check today's date if not.

Aren't they expanding the current technology, rather than changing it? IIRC they are trying to add a first person perspective to any unit, but the full control of all is staying the same.

I believe Total Warrior and Total War are two different things.

I would like to see a Total War game set in America and feature all the major tribes and empires prior to the arrival of the Eurpeans.

Considering that the original fallout team was dead when Fallout:BHOS was in development, you can be pleased you even saw that one. Currently the fallout licence is owned by Bethesda, the people behind the morrowind titles.

Since we all know how this thread is going to progress, let me save you all a lot of trouble:

    "...sell-outs!..."
    "...dumbed down!..."
    "...gaming is degrading!..."
"...It all used to be much better..."
"...They just don't build 'em like they used to..."
    "...Has anyone seen my cane?..."

Let's get a few things straight:

This is not an April's Fools joke.

Sega has nothing to do with the game's production. TCA had started development on it well before it was acquired, and seems to retain creative control over its work.

This was not created in a bid to save the company because the 'unwashed masses' didn't 'get' TCA's Total War series anymore. Rome made very respectable sales.

There is no indication that the Total War franchise will be abandoned over this. The team is still intact, TCA has a long experience of cooperating with big boys and still retaining its integrity.

What this boils down to to me is that a team full of people who had created very highbrow strategy titles (all of which I loved) since before we wrote years with a '2' in front has decided to do something different for a change. I won't fault them for that.

No, I think it was announced a while ago. Like I said, it's not the new direction for the whole entire series.

    I hope

It was posted on Penny Arcade a few strips back, IIRC, so no.

If only that were true. At least FOBOS would be better than Fallout: Morrowind with Guns.

Actually, I'd like to see Total War in Ancient China setting, not during the Three Kingdoms period though, that period is way overexposed. May be during the Sui-Tang period.

There are loads of good historical areas. I'm gonna be pretty alone with this, but I'd love to see a TW game dealing with pre-colonial Africa.

Most periods in African history would be ripe for plundering.

Zulu: Total War. Has a nice ring to it. (:

How about a futuristic Total War... I'd love to see one of those. They would be able to have some nice options for pre-battle shelling, aircraft, and vehicles... mmmm...

Nah. Half of the attraction is the atmosphere. No fictional setting can be as dense as the real world.

Actually, it may be kinda interesting to see

    America: Total War.

What happen when US split into New England Republic, Confederate of Texas, California Empire, and being invaded by Canada and Mexico

I really think you're just not thinking big enough. I'm guessing what you mean is it'd be hard to write it all down, or something. At least a modern one would be kind of nice. You can have atmosphere without the setting existing in real life. Fictional settings are great when someone with a good imagination does them. Otherwise, what's the point in it if you know everything about it and are already used to it?

Don't tell me you were 'used' to the names and accurate rendition of the late Egypt army in RTW before you started playing
What I'm saying is that, to me, a big part of Total War's attraction stems from the details, the sheer accuracy of the experience. A futuristic scenario just can't offer that, because there's nothing to be accurate about.
