Phantasy Star Online (for Dreamcast)

First of all, if this goes against the rules, please delete it.

I was wondering if anyone, or any groups, have made a PSO server that Dreamcast people can connect to? (Since they stopped having the DC servers up... and those were free... and yummy.)

I loved that game, but I don't want to have to buy it again, and then have to pay for the online and blah blah blah...

Oh man, if you can find one do tell me.
I've been dying to play PSO for so long online. . .

It's not hard to find the PC version of PSO or a server for it on the internet. However, you will have to find them yourself, because I don't know anything about that, right? RIGHT?!

The Private PSO PC servers run that everyone can join aren't worth it... they're run by hackers so everyone is either a jerk or a hacker and all the others leave shortly after arriving and being annoyed.
Something about people running about as sonic, tails, robotnic and co shouting "OMG I AM TEH HAX!!!" that just spoils the game -.-

As for DC; ever since sega took the servers down the only way to get one going is using a piece of server software made by said hackers... the number of people you can get on it is rather limited but at least the people you'd play with would have to be people you know...

Personally I'd just advise either buying blue burst or waiting for PSU to come out <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

They released Blue Burst in America? This is the first I've heard of it.

well considering it's on the official sega of america site with 'coming soon' on it, I'd imagine it's on it's way :p
It's not out yet though; the release is supposedly spring 2005 though o.O

That's great news, but I think the real question is "Is it still pay to play?" Because it's not worth it if it is.

The first PSO was never pay-to-play. It was like Diablo, except more fun at some points and with guns. Sega just decided to be lame.

well PSO:BB is a monthly fee but now it's in download form so you don't have to pay for the box or anything :o

Still... dunno if I can be bothered. I'd rather wait for PSU which will probably be much more worthy of a monthly fee <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Last time I checked there were a few Codebreaker codes available that re-routed your Dreamcast's attempted connection (to the now defunct Sega servers) towards one of the third party servers. I've no idea if it was legit or not.

If they did work, you'd want to connect your Dreamcast modem to a line-in port on your PC, which will handle the necessary connections.

Why bother? You'll find a few people on the modified PC version of the original PSO, but nobody else will have gone to the effort to play the DC version.

Blue Burst will be the better choice as it's got all the updated content of the Gamecube / Xbox versions, a new episode, and GMs who patrol the game to ward hackers away.

Yes, and I think it's PC only. It's not worth the fee at all.

Well that's stupid. Any of you have PSO? And could anyone give me a link (or a pm) to the software for the server?

Thanks much. I remember that game being super fun.

For a second there I thought you were going to present your own valid arguement or possible not be a complete ****-smear. Obviously it's his opinion, so stop being a troll.

I've already presented my argument. Blue Burst is a great choice for fans of PSO; writing it off with that stupid comment isn't acceptable.

Could I go into a Warcraft thread and post, "this isn't worth $15 a month," and then leave? No. Don't be stupid.
