(hey it is more fun fragging when you know people) <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> No reason why not other than increased ping. I know a few americans who have alternate characters on Werner.
Right, I guess i'd better compite a brief newbies guide. Read these points, follow my instructions, and you'll be fine.
1. The offline training is totally useless. Do not bother with it.
2. After creating your character, click "Go to sanctuary" <b><u>NOT</u></b> "Instant action" unless you want to be thrust into the middle of a big battle in your pajamas.
3. Exit the building you spawn in. Look around the side of it. There will be two doors on one side of it, one of which you left the building through. Go around the outfit of the building until you find another door, and enter it. You should now be in the VR area, choose "shooting range".
4. Since this is VR, you are effectively certified to use every weapon in the game here. Note also that you get 100 experience points for every weapon you equip for the first time (i.e, hold out in front of you). This means that you can gain a battle rank simply by equiping every weapon you can get. Also press five to pull out your knife, that's worth another 100 exp. Woot, free battle rank two!
5. If you're done equipping every weapon you can, get some practice with them. I recomend in particular focusing on weapons in the medium and heavy assault catagory, as well as MAX units (big suits of armour with built-in guns available on the "armour" tab).
6. Exit VR and enter the VR driving zone (you'll get this option as soon as you leave the shooting range). You get 100 exp for each vehicle you drive for the first time. You know what to do. You'll probably get bored after a bit, but at least keep pulling them until you reach battle rank 3.
7. Press M to bring up your map. You'll see the vehicle terminal you're at on the map. Look for a BIG vehicle terminal, that's for air vehicles. I'd recommend you get some practice with them as well, especially the mosquito which should be a compulsary cert for everyone IMHO.
8. Once you're done in VR, go back to the sanctuary. You can do this either by exiting via one of the teleporter thingys, or by pressing escape and choosing "recall to sanctuary".
9. You're now in the position most other newbies start in, but you've now got two battle ranks and some vital experience under your belt. Using your map, find the nearest HART building. You can't miss it, it's the big square building which may or may not have a shuttle docking with it as you approach. Now it's time to choose your certifications.
10. Inside the HART building, walk up to the certification terminal and press your use key (i'd leave it as G). Now you get to choose your all-important certifications. If you've followed this guide so far, you'll have 6 certs available. The first cert you should choose is a no-brainer; medium assault. This allows you access to your empire-specific rifle, plus the punisher (which sucks) and the Sweeper shotgun (which rocks).
You now have 4 certs remaining. I would recommend you spend these on some kind of vehicle; a pure grunt is not very practical in planetside. If you're a flyboy, take a mosquito. It's the fastest vehicle in the game, and very handy for transportation even if you suck at flying.
Otherwise, i'd recommend a MAX suit, anti-infantry being by far the best. Why a MAX suit? Basically because they own all on their own without any support certs needed; if you certify in heavy assault you get a gun, but no armour to go with that gun, and no way to repair that armour if it gets damaged. A MAX unit on the other hand is pretty much self-sufficient; just be sure to pack a few medkits. All MAX units have a built-in run mode by pressing the autorun key (default q), which means they don't need to be transported.
11. You are now ready to go out and die for your empire, repeatedly. You have two options for your first jaunt into the big wide world; grab a vehicle and drive/fly through the warpgate, or get on board the HART. Either way, you'll eventually find yourself at the continent selection screen. A continent with a padlock symbol over it is "locked", i.e, it has reached the population limit for your empire. You can still enter it if you like, but you'll have to queue up. Try to find a continent which isn't locked, but has a lot of hotspots (little icons representing areas of heavy conflict) on. It helps if your empire has the population advantage there as well.
12. You're in, now go find the battle! When you inevitably die, you'll see the respawn screen. The blue circles are respawn locations. If you're on foot, try to pick one closest to the action. If you want to get another vehicle (or load up in someone else's vehicle- being a gunner requires no certs), spawn at a friendly base.
From there on in it's up to you. You'll probably be invited to a squad at some point, in which case you can bug your new squadmates with questions <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Don't expect to kill much in your first few sessions. Remember that these people have been playing for far longer than you, and will probably have better gear for your first couple of battle ranks. Once you get hold of heavy assault + reinforced exo-suit + special assault/anti-vehicular, you'll start to pwn.

Heavy assault + rexo is the number one choice for infantry simply because Rexo offers you the most protection out of any armour available (MAX units aside), and heavy assault gives you the highest damage output possible versus infantry.
At three point for rexo, plus four for heavy assault, this is a combination which can be certed as early on as BR3, which you would HAVE if you followed my guide. This would not however be a smart choice for outdoor combat where you will get flattened by a tank.
Do you see what i'm saying now? The BR3 player can have the same kit as a BR20 when it counts, but the BR20 dude won't be screwed when the fight moves outdoors, as he will undoubtedly have a vehicle of some kind certed.
You could of course go the cheap route and take ATV for outdoor use; at one cert point and with the ability to ride one whilst wearing Rexo, they're a bargain.

(For the uninitiated - The Striker held 3 missiles. Each missile did 200 damage. The striker had a heat-seeking system and would lock onto just about anything in LOS minus non-MAX infantry. The Phoenix held one missile that did 250 damage. The Phoenix was wire-guided and could be steered around for 6 seconds. This unfortunately meant that while you could fire it from safety, if anything was FARTHER AWAY then a 3 second flight, your Damage Per Second while using the Phoenix was about as effective as using the Anti-Vehicle mode on the Beamer Pistol (Yes... anti-vehicle pistol... don't... flipping... ask)) <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->I hate to say it, but their agile armour looks better than ours. Also being an American (east cost) is it possible to jump on with you brits? (hey it is more fun fragging when you know people) <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
No reason why not other than increased ping. I know a few americans who have alternate characters on Werner.
And listening to animeacademyradio.net (CitS:SAC Rise, God I love this song!)
Once you get hold of heavy assault + reinforced exo-suit + special assault/anti-vehicular, you'll start to pwn.

i think he ment the fights will be fair... instead of dieing because X faction had X but you had some crappy standard stuff.
In PS you can do anything at any level... but the higher you get the more stuff you can do.

Ok, I should have put a big disclaimer in there.
It was far better then the Phoenix. Nothing like being able to repair a tank faster then the enemy can damage it. Did they up the damage on it?
(For the uninitiated - The Striker held 3 missiles. Each missile did 200 damage. The striker had a heat-seeking system and would lock onto just about anything in LOS minus non-MAX infantry. The Phoenix held one missile that did 250 damage. The Phoenix was wire-guided and could be steered around for 6 seconds. This unfortunately meant that while you could fire it from safety, if anything was FARTHER AWAY then a 3 second flight, your Damage Per Second while using the Phoenix was about as effective as using the Anti-Vehicle mode on the Beamer Pistol (Yes... anti-vehicle pistol... don't... flipping... ask))

Last I checked, SG required you to <b>PAY THEM MONEY</b> to join them. I was going to, checked their site, and they're like 'LOL TO JOIN YOU NEED TO FILL THIS APP, THEN TELL US WHAT NAME YOUR SUBMITTED YOUR PAYPAL MONEY UNDER! *$15 FEE*!'
They also claim to OWN you when you join. If they tell you that you're going to play at 3:00 AM, you better, or they take your money and boot you out.
In other words, they're flipping HITLERS.
also don't bother getting HA right away hell i might not bother getting it all, getting a vehicle like the lightning (a one-manned mini-tank) would be a much wiser choice, running across continents isn't fun!
i got 4 certs to chose i might go max but i don't knooow!
Self-promoting videos don't mean anything, though. Organization isn't bought.
SG is organized - True. But is it possible to be that organized without throwing money at them for stupid reasons? Very.
Stupid reasons?

You're basically paying for SG's servers and for member contests. Paying for a clan's servers isn't really that odd... Most clans require you to pay money to fund the servers.
The member contests things is weird but I guess it'd help to encourage clan activity.
