A Couple Of Problems

<div class="IPBDescription">minimizing, viewdemo, sound crackling</div> Hi,
I´ll start with my first problem, that I already solved, but I wanted to mention it. Since I upgraded the drivers for my soundcard, I get very low fps ( under 15 ) on some maps in ns (like veil) and all maps, with a looped sound (topo). I solved it by removing the ambient directory and the problem seems to be solved, but I´m afraid, that this is not a very good solution.
Second problem: I upgraded the drivers for my sound card and the next day the problem with the looped sounds was solved, but whenever I minimize the game and go back to it I get a huge fps drop (~5fps) so I have to restart the game, that´s kinda annoying.
My last problem is, whenever I want to watch a demo through viewdemo I get few fps (~0-15). When I watched it by using playdemo, everything works fine.

My sys:
amd athlon xp 2000+
sapphire atltantis 9800 pro 128mb
1280 mb ram
creative sound blaster pci128

I also have all the newest driver and I wanted to mention, that I never had this problems before I upgraded my drivers for the sound card. But I need the new drivers to play knights of the old repulibc 2 and splinter cell 3 properly. (installing elder drivers didn´t work though)

For some reason, viewdemo goes at 15 fps for 30s and then goes to 99fps after that. I think it's uncompressing or loading the demo into RAM so you can FF or RW easily, but I don't know very much about the tech behind demos, so I could be wrong.

Rollback your sound-crad driver to the one previously installed.

    1. Click Start
    2. Select Control Panel
    3. On the left side, in the blue part, click the "link" that says Switch to classic view
    4. Click Sound and Audio Devices
    5. Click the HARDWARE tab
    6. Select your sound card (It will have a speaker iconto the left of it, but other things have the same icon)
    7. Click properties
    8. Click the Driver tab
    9. Click "Roll back Driver"
    10. Click yes in the next prompt.

As for the problem with sound crackling, turn down your bass, consider getting new headphones/speakers (headphones preferably)

my headphones are fine and new, so this is actually a bad idea :/
and setting up old drivers won´t work.
I hard really old ones, then I installed new drivers, some weeks after that I noticed there are newer, then I installed them, and after that I installed the older ones, and then again the newest.
If I roll them back, where would that lead me?

    edit:
    the thing with the demo worked, thanks <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    so don't minimize the game?

alternatively, consider playing in a window if you find yourself tabbing out of NS a lot. I've had no performance hits, and it's just so much more convenient. (IMs, error messages, etc, don't disrupt the game suddenly or make it crash).

you can try it by checking the "Run in window" box under video options (or somewhere in there.)

    just a suggestion.
