Eh, I'm mostly creating this thread out random thought.
Does anyone have any interesting stories to tell about being/being raised by a single parent? Not necessarily funny, just interesting.
Serious responses only, please. I don't want any stupid comments in this thread.
I used to think that my dad just ran off one day, but my mom finally told me what actually happened a little while ago. Here's the story:
When I was two, my father was out with his friends or something, taking whatever drugs he takes with them. I lived with them and my newborn brother in the basement of my grandmother's house, which had been converted in to a sort of apartment. I was helping her put the laundry away and, in my father's sock drawer, I came across a straw. Filled with cocaine. My mom was facing away, putting clothes in a different drawer at the time, when she suddenly heard a very strange noise. She turned around to find me blowing in to the straw. (Thankfully, not inhaling its contents, but she says that that was the most terrifying moment of her life.)
Angry, she took a few garbage bags and started dumping all of my father's things in them. Then she threw them out on the front lawn. When my father came home, he got really angry and his mother called a taxi to come pick him up. He threatened to kill my mom, but my mom said something like "Do you want to show up on your mom's doorstep in garbage bags too?" and he just left.
My mom is awesome.

I was like 8 years old, and my mom didn't have any new underwear for me. I was wearing some really old stuff at that point, and it was a real necessity to get some more, but alas the money was not in the budget. So she prayed. And prayed. Around a week later, my stepmom's sister in law dropped by with some boy's underwear that was not not needed at their house. It fit me just fine.
