<div class="IPBDescription">pwn.</div>A few months ago, Google made public their new service, <a href='http://maps.google.com/' target='_blank'>Google Maps</a>. Not to be outdone by, errm, themselves, yesterday they released a new Satellite photo based version of the same service.

<a href='http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.039063,-93.339844&spn=130.781250,174.726563&t=k&hl=en' target='_blank'>Clickity</a>

It's not really a suprise if you knew about their recent purchase of the company behind <a href='http://www.keyhole.com/' target='_blank'>Keyhole</a>.

It's still a damned impressive, almost mystical use of XML to seamlessly deliver content to your browser - any browser (cross-platform ftw) w/o a page refresh.
No java, no flash apps, nada.
Raw. Unadulterated. Speed.

Look ma, <a href='http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=35.649551,-97.453258&spn=0.007982,0.010664&t=k&hl=en' target='_blank'>I can see my house from here</a>! (Apartment actually. It's centered in the photo. You want the address? Too bad, you'll have to get a little smarter. :P)

So sexy...

Yes, as soon as I learned there was a trailer park behind my apt. complex I immediately checked our insurance to ensure it covers tornados.

Thankfully tornados in central Oklahoma seem to be VERY descriminating, and there are known cases where they'll touch down in an apartment complex, tear **** up, then lift up again before hitting houses.

(And no, I'm not making that up)

If you're a weather-fanatic like myself, you'd already know that's possible. As with the whole wind, companion vortexes..etc..etc..I watch too many specials. :x It's fun, though.
Sad thing is, all we've gotten in our area is probably a funnel cloud at most. *shrug* What a sight.

The entire apt complex has gray roofs if that's what you mean. But yeah, I can see what you mean. Top-down view isn't the most flattering I guess. And they took it in the middle of summer when all the grass is dead cause it never rains in the summer. That explains some of the large patches of dirt, however the really really large patches of dirt to the left are from where they were doing construction. (The photos are about 2 years old, everything there is up now)

2001, to be more precise, if I'm correct. The view of my HS only shows the last year of the completion of it, which was 2001. Could vary with region, of course. That's how old our views are, anyways.

Hey, it took me a while to find my house. The bodies of water near my area are way too small to be searched for effectively, and I just can't identify highways from space all that well. Eventually I had to correlate the satellite map with the original googlemap to find my town.
