This is the backstory / saga behind my new map "ns_vargus" - have a look over <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=81131&st=0' target='_blank'>here</a> for pics and various backstory snippets, etc. Comments are welcome and encouraged as well. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Vargus: Prelude
"We'll make this short." spat the skinny man in his white (I'm sure white is under there, somewhere.) lab coat; stained by various substances; the which you could only imagine. It gave him a mad scientist sort-of edge; increased by his ever-greying hair and fidgety palms.
You would almost expect his assistant to come rushing in, one leg limping, announcing that it was in-fact, "alive!!"
Instead he was met by a pleasant man, couldn't be older than thirty, with deep searching eyes and a face that would make any woman a little head-over-heels. He was quiet but gracious in his report. "We can't. It simply... isn't safe. And, look, we have guests," a motion to myself, "now, why don't we show him around? Eh?"
The mad scientist appeared as though his Frankenstein had suddenly been crushed, as the pleasant man took a long stride my way.
"I'm Dr. Krossman. Pleasure to meet you, sir." We shook hands and exchanged pleasantries while the other doctor retreated away into the darkness of the station. And I noticed slightly how unpleasant theses pleasantries were as we muddled over scientific theories and terms, the which I had minimal knowledge. We continued beating (around a certain bush) until we came to the Valkyrie Labs.
I was simply astounded.
Computers were processing more data than I knew existed. The buzz and hum gave this room a fast-pace and cold ambience. I knew not what to ask nor what to say. So... I said nothing. Dr. Krossman must have sensed how taken-aback I was by all this research.
"Surprised?" He posed, a simple but elegant question that seemed incapable of response, at least on my end. Another researcher joined him, only to exchange the usual uncomfortable not-so-pleasantries and then away he went as well. I, in my shock at this moment, don't recall what I saw or what I did not see. I only recall a certain doctor being present. The same doctor, who had earlier worn that old stained coat. He was hard at work, newly dressed; I hardly recognized him. How had he gotten back so fast?
As Krossman explained (to closed ears) what all this research was I couldn't help but notice him, over there. Hard at work. Composed. Not like the man I had seen before...
Ah, well.
