ok, so I'm sitting at my comp today, looking at some .mpegs I had recently downloaded, I decided to delete one of them, and right as I click onthe delete option my computer freezes up. Upon rebooting I discover something very odd, my keyboard and mouse have totally stopped working. It would seem that my ps/2 ports were not getting any power, since the lights on my keyboard would not turn on. I rebooted several times and each time I was given a "no keyboard" error while booting up, but mouse/keyboard worked worked right after windows started to load and stopped working as soon as the startup programs (trillian, etc) started, although they would hang for a minute upon starting. After rebooting a few times I went and found an old crappy usb laptop mouse and plugged that in. It worked fine (aside from the fact that it is crappy), and after using that for about ten minutes my regular mouse/keyboard started to work again. They worked fine all afternoon until about an hour ago when they both pooped the bed, and decided not to work again. I am stumped as to what the crap has happened, any thoughts?

yes
don't have any to begin with
no, that would be a third-to-last option.
Do a system restore and try again.

Seriously, I have no idea what the problem is. Good luck fixing it. Have you tried a different mouse/keyboard? That probably wouldn't be the problem, but it's worth trying.

If everyone would switch to Mac, then he'd be coming here with a Mac problem instead of a PC problem. NO TYPE OF COMPUTER IS WITHOUT IT'S PROBLEMS. That goes for OSes as well.
Have you tried the keyboard/mouse on another computer or another KB/Mouse with this one? I would say try checking your BIOS to see if they have the ability to be disabled and if they were. But without a keyboard, yeah. Other than the reinstallation of Windows (don't have/need to format) then that's all I can think of.
He probably wants to fix the problem, not work around it.

Either way, there is no more problem, so the easier the better.
And if you want to entertain a crazy hunch, I think your numlock display led on the keyboard is shorted.

OH MY GOD!
i shall now kiss you for posting that!
Well then if I wanted to mess around with my BIOS or anything I would be screwed, since my comp does not recognize usb devices until windows boots up.
[edit]Just tred another keyboard I had floating around, and besides the fact that a good amount of the keys do not work (it's a very old keyboard) so I still have to use the on-sreen keyboard to type spaes, it's fine. I guess I didn't think it was a proble with the keyboard itself beause the LEDs would flicker ad it would work some of the time, leading me to believe it was a software issue.
Anyhow, all the mac bashers are poor and jealous! (As was I.... until I got a mac. Now life is complete.) But, don't get me wrong, I still use my PC to play games like HL2... even though the sound stutter problem makes the game almost unplayable.
