    I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
    Only I will remain. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Does anyone else use the Litany against Fear in real life?

Well, it calms you down and makes you focus on being rational, so, to a certain degree, yes. But you have to repeat it also when you're feeling very calm, otherwise you'll get that whole psychological imprint so that you associate the Litany with feeling nervous, which doesn't do you much good.

I'd give it a go if I could memorize it.

Tried ... failed, and cant be bothered.

I use the abridged version that appears in the miniseries:

    I will not fear.
    Fear is the mind killer.
    I will face my fear.
I will let it pass through me.
When it is gone there will be nothing.
    Only I will remain.

omg, that guy was really hilarious... especially at that one part where he lets out a good solid howl of terror at absolutely nothing at all <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> (8:38)

SS2 and Doom 3 both creeped me, but i probably only made a sound of scaredness maybe twice or 3 times during each. little yelps <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

has it occurred to anyone else that this englishman must have balls of solid brass to play consistently while being so scared? that's.. conviction. resolve.

/me anticipates "Well, no **** sherlock."

But yea, System Shock 2 has always been one of my favorite games. They did logs correct and they have the perfect atmosphere. Everything about it was perfect. If only someone would remake it on Half-Life 2, or better yet: Doom 3. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
No known phobias...not fond of bees (pffft, they get smashed if they go near me...the bastards <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ) or deep water when I'm swimming (something about looking straight under you 50 feet is a bit unnerving...but I still swim over it; for some reason I love heights though <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ).

If you want to go that far: not death either, it's one of those great "I get to find out what happens!" moments [UltimaGecko does not endorse suicide; especially as a means of finding out what happens when you die <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> ]. Be nice if it happened rather peacefully...but whatever.

SS2 had atmosphere, it would have been greatly helped by upgraded level textures and special effects (you can leave the models alone if you want). Logs were cool, seems Doom 3's are pretty nice too (not really as interesting, but acted well enough). I did like how the guys were randomly spawned though, but spawned no where near you [although it would be annoying if it happened on Engineering]. Although it has a lot of background information, the in-game storyline isn't that exciting.

And there's no reason you should really need the assault rifle...

Anyway: Doom 3 = not scary.
