Cool. I wonder how useful it would be for mind control.

Doesnt this concern anyone? how is this different from how the matrix storyline propably started? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

First, we get matrix VR, then we get AI.. then we all die, lol

Its pretty cool news, just too bad itll be 10 years before well see any real progress on these matters

Of course, it also shows how little you can determine as a human. If you can 'inject' sensory information to the brain, you can effectively completely control their reactions. Humans aren't as evolved as we like to think, and a lot (if not most) of our decisions in day to day life are entirely instinctive.

And of course, if this has made it to the public domain, it means it is probably well underway as a private venture. If your only forms of input are being controlled, you're effectively a 'soul' trapped in a fleshy mass, I'm afraid.

How long until you can't trust your own senses?

Well, I'm going to be concerned about how specific Sony's patent is. Also kind of concerned about how they don't even have a proper implementation of the idea yet. Irunno, if they go all evil on this...

All I see is a patent on an idea, not a patent on anything concrete.

Well it's quite a long way off if the animatrix is to be believed.

But absolute VR would be cool. I would totally test out that "how many five year olds" thing. In vr. So no one got hurt.

As if we have anything else to trust right now. Hell, most people can't trust their families, spouses- not being able to trust yourself removes the last barrier, to teach people, fear isn't a bad thing.

    ...but this <b>is</b> scary.

I suspect it's a VERY long way from actually being implemented on humans in any manner that could have the kind of effects you guys are talking about... and as soon as it gets close, humanitarian groups and all sorts of govermental offices will start baring down on them checking out what they do etc

When you see that happening, realize that it's already too late for you. Your mind is being controlled by "them". It's just a clever trick to make sure you don't realize it.

I like it, don't mind the whole mind control thing because if I'm being controlled? Well then they'll make me happy and I won't care.

Yep, and then in about 5 years after Ninentdo, Sony, and Microsoft adopt the idea fully, a small company will come out of the woodwork, and sue everyone for "stealing their idea". I reckon the "Adult Entertainment" buisness should sue the hell out of everyone who's ever made anything that vibrates. Hell, they've had them for *years*!
