Bug Or Not Bug?

<div class="IPBDescription">mines....</div> When you place a mine if an alien runs up to it they can stop it being set and disappear if they either run over it or bite it.

So is it a bug or not? Had some saying it is and others it isn't so not sure <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

They have to bite it. It's your chance to get rid of the mine without blowing yourself up. That's why you hear the mine setting up.

Think it also works if you manage to put a mine on an alien though :/

Wow. New on me and I genuinely thought I knew about pretty much all of NS's feature set. I'll have to try this.

Yep, hardly anyone know this about NS, it's pretty useful in combat specifically.

Usually when I tell aliens to disarm mines they suicide on it though <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Yeah, when you place mines down, when you hear the arming noise, that tells the skulks to go and bite it. It won't go off, but that's 2.5 res wasted for each mine you "disarm".

I thought that it was because mines were supposed to arm themselves, which is why they never blow up in the first seconds following their setting

Is this one of the advantangeous ideas contained within the BUS system?

I like this feature about mines, it means you cant just run around until you see an alien, drop the mine then pull out your gun (I only do this in CO sometimes, to get mines as close to the hive as possible). If the alien knows what it's doing, it'll bite the mine and still have a decent chance of getting you, cause you were delayed while pulling your gun out

I guess it could have been a bug, but later became a feature. I don't recall exactly how mines worked in 2.x, as bonzai bases were the popular strategy at the time. I do know you could place a bunch of them in one spot, and stand on top of it with a shotgun, making a nice Fade trap.

100% true, killing a mine by biting, spitting, slashing or whatever before it makes the CLICK noise will disarm it harmlessly.

Actually having the chance to run up to mines being placed and bite them however is extremely rare and typically just as suicidal.
