More like "Give us your papers so if you cause any trouble we can kill you and no one will ever know."

I was really enjoying reading through that up until the remark..."Incredible what kids can do when you take away their video games . . . ".

I pondered writing to him about the irony of writing about how North Korean's are led by media falsehoods and prejudice, but I deleted my polite message (which he most likely wouldn't be interested in) and closed my browser instead.

While serving in the US Army some time ago in South Korea, several times I noticed North Koreans hung by the neck from hanging trees.

With the advancement civil rights has made over the decades, I have to wonder if that practie still exists ... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

To be honest, from the articles, it doesn't look like Kim been doing a terribly bad job for the people that is "on his side."

I might be going to north korea this summer - there is a taekwon-do training academy there and I've been offered a place to train with them for a couple of weeks... but I can't decide if I want to go ¬.¬

It's a combination of Nazi concentration camps, Soviet oppression, and African poverty. I'd say he's doing a terribly bad job.

From the article, leaving the author's prejudice, I don't see any evidence of that.

PS: Was that picture supposed to show something?

That's one of the old satellite photos pasted together from night shots. The white stuff you see is larger concentrations of artificial light. Take note the incredible lack of it in North Korea. It's pretty creepy, actually.

Also, by Googling you can probably find a similar map of the United States for comparison.
  • DrSuredeathDrSuredeath Join Date: 2002-11-11 Member: 8217Members
Yes, that's my first guess, but there must be more into it that. May be they omitted some area for easier interpretation? Why are there lights concentrated over some area in the ocean. What's the actual title of this picture? I don't want to take one look at the picture and rush into conclusion.

I remember it being a foldout map in National Geographic.

Here's what looks to be the same thing.

man, i hate these guys who think they can make an fair assumption about us and our kind of people, and yet say HEY LOOK AT THE SK SOLDIER WITH THE HELMET BORROWED FROM HIS BIG BROTHER! now that just ****ing pisses me off. This arrogant **** could even try to close up the sk and nk soldiers? i'm suprised theydidn't pump him full of lead! Man, i'm pretty **** off at how he sees us as too strict and ****.
one quote from this piece of prejiduce. <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->By now I was getting irritated. NO! Truly i am astounded by the thinking of this guy.

The picture is a satellite image of Korea at night. The amount of light is roughly determined by population density and amount of electricity use. South Korea has about 48 million people. North Korea has about 22 million people. You'd expect for there to be about half the amount of light, if both countries had similiar rates of electricity use. Yet, North Korea is so impoverished, that it can't afford enough electricity to make enough light to see clearly.

And yet, the government devotes an enormous portion of its resources to build 8 lane highways (even though few people have cars), huge monuments, and to put on huge festivals glorifying Kim Jong Il and Kim Il Sung.

    Concentration camps:
    <a href='http://www.guardian.co.uk/korea/article/0,2763,1136483,00.html' target='_blank'>http://www.guardian.co.uk/korea/article/0,...1136483,00.html</a>

<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->In the far north of North Korea, in remote locations not far from the borders with China and Russia, a <b>gulag not unlike the <i>worst</i> labor camps built by Mao and Stalin</b> in the last century holds some 200,000 men, women and children accused of political crimes.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
They're holding children as political prisoners.

    Famine:

This is why I said that your statement was wrong:
<!--QuoteBegin-DrSuredeath+--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (DrSuredeath)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->To be honest, from the articles, it doesn't look like Kim been doing a terribly bad job for the people that is "on his side."<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The worst part, is that they love their leader, even though he is the cause of many of their problems.

Now that I have a chance to comment on the article.

Yeah, the guy is biased a bit, but really, do you blame him?

I know if I was in North Korea I would not be playing with my cell phone or trying to take illegal photos. Brave guy imo.
