    Slight of hand...

    Or if you are my less educated friend, then "he is obviously in league with satan and is using genuine witchcraft" just like David Copperfield.

    Fixed.

    I just figured out one part of it:

    starting at 0:57 he simply takes the card at the top of the deck instead of taking the one at the bottom, and effectively is always showing the same one.

    Magic.

    Uh I've never seen such a cool card trick in my life.

    I think the ones where they physically cut/shred the cards and then have them back in 1 piece are more impressive personally.

    The four cards he's using are the two of hearts, the ten of spades, the king of diamonds, and the king of clubs.

    At the end of the movie he probably puts down the two of hearts and ten of spades first, then the two kings. At least, that's what I think. I'm confused. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Well... no... if you look closely he shows the cards and drops them. He's not putting them down the pile or anything. BTW at the end he has 2 kings of diamonds and 2 kings of clubs.

    yes the end part is quite simple too

    starting at 1:03 he takes 2 cards (passing it off as one) in his right hand, the bottom one being the king of diamonds and the top one being the 2 or the 10 which he places on the table. Then he takes 2 more cards the bottom one being the king of clubs and the top is one of the others and he puts the top one on the table. So he is left with the sametwo kings.

    Yeah, it's just sleight of hand. I used to be able to this years ago (although the version I knew was a lot simpler, mainly just being the first part. Less to keep track of)

    Ooooh Alright. I didn't notice that at all, but I see it now. He's taking two cards in one go when he shows us, but only one card goes into the pile?

    Ahh I see. Pretty easy right. But well done.

    Here's a better explanation

    - At 1:03 the stack goes like this: 10, king of clubs, 2, king of diamonds (from top to bottom)
    - First he takes the two bottom cards and passes it off as one, showing the bottom card.
    - The new order is 2, king of diamonds, 10, king of clubs
    - He puts the 2 on the table
    - The new order is king of diamonds, 10, king of clubs
    - He takes the bottom two again, showing the bottom card.
    - The new order is 10, king of clubs, king of diamonds
    - He puts the 10 on the table
    - Shows the two last cards which are of course the same two kings

    Really its quite silly for a magician to ever put their tricks on video because then someone can frame-by-frame it to see the trick. :P

    It was being streamed and for reasons I can't explain, I only seemed to have the play and stop buttons showing up in the little Windows Media Player window.

    There's a link below to "right click and save target as"... meaning you can save it as file on your comp <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Looks like he's using a techinique called 'the glide'; it's a pretty standard card trick manouver :3
    I'm also tempted to think he might also be using 'short cards' but the video wasn't playing properly for me so it's hard to tell ^^;

    Used to do lots of magic tricks when I was lil; specialised a lot in card tricks. Course that means any time we play a card game I usually get stuck with the job of shuffling now <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    double lifts are also fun <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    one of the easiest ways to manipulate 'where' a card is via flippling multiple cars at one time so that you can sohw any car 'on top'.

    forinstance:
    2 is the 3rd card down.
    triple lift (showing the 2 to be "on top")
    ditch top card
    double lift (shwing the 2 "on top")
    ditch top card
    show top card

    lol triple lift? Double you can get away with but I usually find trying to do 3 is a bit obvious, if not for the thickness then the fact it's lots harder (for me anyways) to nip in under a 3rd card compared to just a second :o

    Then again, I think my grandad used to show me a trick using a triple lift so I guess I just need to practice that more :p

    I have seen tricks that use tripple lifts.

    I havn't practiced in a long time so all of my card skills are now relegated to being able to to a bridge shuffle midair <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    oh, and I can still roll a qurater (the cheating way though <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->), and do a few other coin toys <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Triple lift is possible, but can be a bit of a pain to pull off given the length of your fingernails. I can't do it myself... I much prefer controlling the shuffle to place the card where I want it. The advantage being that you can have your audience lift it, no-tricks style.
    The down side, to pull off the unicard deck, you need to work with a Svengali deck. Which leaves evidence. :b Any kind of rigged prop does.. well, unless you have big enough hands to switch it before inspection.
  • GeminosityGeminosity :3 Join Date: 2003-09-08 Member: 20667Members
    you can usually get away with letting people inspect a short-card deck before the trick... they don't understand how it works so they won't know what to look for, plus most people handle cards in similar ways so you just need to make sure you hand them the right way up so it's normal when or more importantly, IF they flick through them.
    Done it plenty of times :3

    I usually let my friends play with the couple of magic tools I have but usually palm an important piece before handing it over... they never notice and I usually get a giggle out of watching them being puzzled as to why it won't work for them XD

    I love misdirection and sleight of hand; two best things you'll ever learn from just about any kind of magic.
