tell a newbie what's out there
it's been a few months since HL2's release, and I haven't been watching the mod scene even a little. what's out there that's worth playing? go ahead and point me to another thread if there is one; I tried a quick search but the search is still... searching currently =d if there's a reliable website with mods and reliable reviews, you can point me there as well...

I've been watching Caliber for a while now, and I think it's probably the only mod with such good graphics at such an early stage.
The mod i'm in is in my sig. Although you won't find much new to lookat tat you couldn't see a month ago. A few of our members are getting new PCs, and the modelling has slowed down (most of the media on the page will be obsolete soon). The cool thing is tat we've got some media lined up for release soon. We desperately need coders.
Personally, I'm watching Neo-Tokyo and Dystopia. But if you want to find some jsut check around ModDB
I'd watch out on that one. I was awaiting it too for UT2kx, and it turned out to be a pretty crappy CS clone with bad models.
Heres to hoping.
because good graphics at an early stage mean something?
not that I'm being critical, though. just thinking of the ancient NS screenies
edit: also a word of warning about that neotokyo site. the hl2 bloom mod is nice but sends load times through the roof. use with care.
Of course, I would mention that.

Hey! Your name's there! Brilliant!
Now where's that Ridge Racer map you promised me?

It's in the mail.

Graphics don't mean much, but it gives another level of immersion in the game, and makes it seem more promising that the mod will eventaully succeed in getting out a beta to us. The mods with no custom models or crappy ones are more often the ones that die I think... (Seems like that would be the case at least)...
I think that Caliber looks like it will be an isnanely fun game to play. I mean the people who are making it are modeling some of the ideas off of NS, one being resources and tech trees, the other being the little-recoil, and a focus on teamwork.
The models I really think look great. They released the re-skined level2 vamin model semi-recently... It wasn't skinned on the hand yet, but the rest of it looked great. All rust covered and everything...
The next media release should be in the next week or two I think, and they will be showing off a couple new things. I can't wait.

To answer which, there aren't all that many.
Well... There's StriderMod(which was fun in singleplayer, but I haven't tried out the multiplayer in the new multiplayer-only version), SourceForts, Hidden: Source(which was awesome fun while it lasted)... probably others.

Apparently everyone else missed Kimara pointing out my lack of instruction-reading skillz.

Someone's not seen http://www.forsaken-game.com/ then. Take a look at the media section, for a mod early in development, there's definately some excellent work there.
Also yes, Half Life 2: Jakin' Bacon Source is awesome.
It's not for HL2, you nincompoop.
Ive been working with a teaser trailer for an upcoming mod for hl2. Frontline Force is doing a comeback to the source engine, and the trailer got an official release yesterday. So i thought id share it here as well. More info about the mod itself will be released in a few weeks. This was made mainly in mind to soothe the current Frontline Force community. But since that community aint too big, sharing it here might get some interest as well.
Enjoy the Teaser
