im a mage and still find my self getting ganked all the time(by levels 10+ higher than me) in stranglethorn vale, i swear for every alliance there there is 20 horde. Blizz needs to find some fix for this for me and me alone, i spend half my time trying to get to nesingway and booty bay now

(they have had booty bay blocked off for the past 2 hours)

You already have a rogue.

(I've been known to play a weak class in an RPG or MMORPG-style situation because I enjoy their style. Rogues in NWN, for instance. Or Bards.)

Rogues were weak in NWN? I totally abused roguish skills to wear monk cloth that perma-hastened my rogue. She could backstab 6 times before combat even started, sneaked as fast as most people run and she was nigh-on immune to most types of physical damage thanks to a handy-dandy collection of damage negating belts. She ended up killing a lot of stuff way before she was supposed to; even the "oh noes its a boss" fights were dissapointing as they tended to drop down dead rather fast... using scrolls and potions to give stoneskin, cat's grace, etc just made it all the less challenging :o
• TestamentTestament Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4037Members
Not in NWN itself...anything could stomp NWN so easily. I meant in persistant worlds and stuff, they were generally weak, and useless. Only reason to play one was 'cuz you loved rogues, like me.
• GeminosityGeminosity :3 Join Date: 2003-09-08 Member: 20667Members
ah... kinda noticed that most of the classes kicked a bit too much rear in single player. I ended up amusing myself with my sorceress by walking about heavily populated dungeons/mansions, opening doors to rooms full of guards and waving at them, closing the door and waiting about 3 seconds before blowing it off it's hinges with a fireball killing all the people in the room who were now clustered behind it just about to open it :D

Never really got around to trying online stuff... was kinda put off by the fact whoever ran the server could just totally make up items so that the experience wasn't all that consistant (I know one person who tried to make all the PSO weapons on there. They managed a decent saber and double saber but still... :s ).
• TestamentTestament Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4037Members
Thus why you'd play persistant worlds. Roleplaying ones especially. They're basically MMORPG's without all the bull, and the owner of the server has complete control over pretty much anything in the game. Classes, feats, spells, items, balance, etc. It really fostered a great roleplaying enviroment, with awesome quests. I once took part in a 4 month long player-run quest that had no DM interaction, and it just gets better with it. D&DO won't match the roleplaying possibilities, but I hope it approaches it.
• GeminosityGeminosity :3 Join Date: 2003-09-08 Member: 20667Members
well what I meant by not being consistant is that the items and whatnot introduced to the worlds (and yup I meant persistant ones too) haven't had painstaking years of balancing put into them and because feats and whatnot were also up to the DMs the chances of the classes being on unequal grounds to an annoying degree sorta bothered me.

One of my friends was a monk who went about in nothing but a loincloth and helmet... he called himself 'the naked monk' and basically... well... I'll tell you one of his online 'adventures' :s

The monk of the naked order entered a smokey tavern, amongst the rabble of chatter and merriment were the usual cast of adventurers and opportunists. A dwarven warrior looked up from his mug of ale and burst out laughing.
"Wit the? Wid ye look at that! Lost yer clothes boyo?" he guffawed, several of the others there joining in the mocking and laughter.
Without a word the monk walked forward and killed the dwarf instantly with a supernatural technique. Others lept from their seats and were cut down like wheat before a scythe.
I think it ended with a bar full of bodies with the few survivors running screaming out of the door only to be hunted down to meet a similarly gruesome fate.

Repeat infinitely and you've got his NWN online days :s

On any good server he'd be banned for that, persistant worlds don't allow local vault characters, and any one worth anything wouldn't have stupidly powerful items.
• GeminosityGeminosity :3 Join Date: 2003-09-08 Member: 20667Members
~shrug~

It was the monk char he made and developed on that server from scratch. Besides he didn't have any powerful items except maybe the helm; he was naked after all XD

Honestly, if they let him last that long a roleplaying server with such a stupid idea and character, it's not even worth playing on.

(Only main armour shows up on chars in NWN, so you never know.)

Testament - One of the best things about D&D (and ergo NWN) is that you can use any playstyle you want and its not 'wrong'. If the server allows a monk to walk into a bar and kill everyone, its not 'wrong'. It just doesn't suit your way of gaming.

Also, bear in mind this is second hand info off Gem. It could quite easily be a CE 40th level naked monk slaughtering some level 1 newbies with nothing unbalanced about it at all.

Gem - Theres loads of PW servers out there of every type, its easy to find one you like. I'd point you to the playZen Nordock server as one I know to be decent (IMO).

BTW, were way off-topic

Generally, me appearing in a thread means it's gonna go off-topic ^~

He actually told me the levels of some of his escapades and while I can't really remember them I do recall several incidents of him laying waste to people higher level and with better equipment... then again monks always were a tad overkill anyways :3

As for WoW I've cancelled my subscription for now. I've got a holiday coming up and i need cash for it, I don't have an income at the moment so the less I have draining my £500 the better aaaand I wasn't really playing it much recently anyways.
Might renew once the holiday is over and it's seen a few more patches, though I'm more likely to go poke City of Heroes to see what it's like these days first ^^

Dishonourable kills, after a lot of them, will brand you an "outlaw" and can mean that members of your own faction can kill you, and even make friendly cities off-limits.

Apparently.

what I saw said that Dishonerable kills did nothing atm, though if there were to many then blizz would step in an impose a penaltie...
• Ph0enixPh0enix Join Date: 2002-10-08 Member: 1462Members, Constellation
Not in this patch esuna.

If you kill NPCs 9 levels or more below you, it counts as a dishonourable kill. It appears on your honour stats sheet but otherwise does zip. Thats it.

Blizzard's idea is to put the honour system in first, see how bad the situation is with highbie ganking lowbies and then take action depending on how bad it is, rather then putting something in now which may be too lax/severe.
• ThansalThansal The New Scum Join Date: 2002-08-22 Member: 1215Members, Constellation
and that is part of it.

you don't even get DH Kills for ganking lowbies, only npcs....

I understand that this does create a cool competition to PvP alot, and kill every one (the decreasing returns for corpse camping is cool).

however I think they should have atleast labled DH kills on PvP, even if they don't do anytihng...

yes it does, though the honor is split bassed off of dmg done.

and honor also works similar to XP for groups (honor+grouphonor bonus split equaly amongst the group)

and each group istreated as an individual, so if 4 groups each deal %25 of the dmg each group gets %25 of the honor

Well nothing honorable about zerging with 15 lvl 60 and killing singleplayers... so the honor spread to every party member is minimal.

so... the meat grinder you have will chew up so many players that you'll get very good honor. Honor kills soloing (something blizzard wanted to stay viable throughout the game), everyone will be in groups unless they are dumb or its like 5am.

The only problem with bringing a Insane amount of players (10+) is that you'll burn through all the people in a zone so fast that you'll have to move the group around the world to find fresh honor to harvest.

The new holy nova sucks to... I wouldn't renew my subscription to WoW if i didn't have 100+ gold worth of items chillin' in my mailbox right now. one more month... enough time to get my priest to 60 hopefully.

So far i hate the new patch, stranglethorn vale is weak now, (lvl 38 gnome mage) it took me 25 minutes to get in too a guy in booty bay from the arena, it is covered in horde on my server. people camping grave yards. So i went to thousand needles. I got ganked by a group of 3 lvl 30ish horde and than 2 more when i finally respawned at my graveyard. This honor system sucks so far.

blizzard has gone down hill since they released starcraft and lost roper
