Steam Earns A Point
<div class="IPBDescription">in my books.</div> Steam did something yesterday that I did not know it capable of. I was joining a server for a quick game of TFC (Taking its sweet time downloading the security module, me being 56k and all), and music starts playing. I was confused for a bit, wondering why my comp felt the need to play some jazz, when I realized that I left a JJ Johnson CD in the drive.
I didn't know it did that, and I thought that I might share it with you undoubtedly more-informed-than-I people.

Personally I think a point should be given to Steam for downloading Half-life's music cues so you don't need the CD in to hear them : )
You have always been able to play and control cds through the console, too.
'cd play #' - Plays the specified track
'cd loop #' - Loops it
'cd stop' - <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Bet that felt great <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Hmm, I bet. With lines like "Saturn ascends" starting with the sound of some service lift as the console loads up, which descends you into to a sublime 8 minute long morphing landscape of music that builds to a crescendo of adrenaline inducing rhythm with Maynard belting "Let go" like a mantra. I can see how that would compliment your game <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
(sorry for the plug <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
I just changed all the ns default music tracks to some freaky or kick **** tracks from my extensive collection.
Works nice in terms of game ambience. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I used to play Quake online with Siamese Dream in most of the time, and occasionally (in a weird mish-mash of genres) Warcraft II or the Warcraft II expansion CD in the drive... very rarely used the actual quake CD.
