Can't Connect

OK, I'm a total HL and NS newb, so this may be an obvious and/or stupid problem, but I've got half-life installed (for the first time ever, for me) and I have Natural Selection installed, and it all seems to work (even went through the training bit).

But when I try to join a server, I get the error: "You cannot connect to a server running custom game ns until you instal custom game." What am I missing here?

    Either fix the shortcut to NS, or use the Half-Life shortcut in the startmenu.

    Shortcut Fix:

    1. Right-Click on the desktop shortcut.
    2. Select Properties.
    3. Follow these instructions:

    I can't play NS because all the time it disconnects me when I try some server? With CS I have the same error but after a few try it connects.
