<div class="IPBDescription">What is Comparable with Intel?</div> I know how fast generally Intel Processors are. But these new Athlon 64s just confuse me.

What would be comparable(processor speed wise) to a Pentium 4, 3.0ghz?

And please list the Operating Frequency.

I don't think AMD actually has anything clocked up to 3 GHz, but if you're looking for the competitor to a P4 3.0 GHz, I believe that that is the Athlon XP 3000+. I think that the "3000+" means that it would perform as well as a 3 GHz from their last processor line. (Most people think that it's against the P4. It very well may be, so correct me if I'm wrong.)

Congratulations, you're a moron. You win a cookie. But it's a cookie made with ground up maggots and bleach. Get off the forum if you don't meet the minimum IQ requirements, please.

You have to understand that with AMD processors is that their actual core clock speed cannot be compared directly to those of Intel processors as a whole. AMD labels their processors to the equivilant level of performance of Intel's scheme.

As it turns out clock speed isn't everything and AMD is the crowning example of that, that's your short answer really.

Right, but I was just looking for comparable products, power-wise.

    I'm thinking of getting <a href='http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103502' target='_blank'>this</a> or <a href='http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103483' target='_blank'>this</a>.

Which would ya'll reccomend of those 2? Or come up with your own, under $200 for price.

You'll want the one with the 939 pin connection. Last I checked, general consensus was that the 754 pins would be phased out and 939 would be flagship.

I've been looking at these too. Let us know how it works out for you.

Okay, would that 939(the first one) be compatable with <a href='http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socket478/p4s800-mx/overview.htm' target='_blank'>this</a>.

    Nope, that's for a Pentium 4 processor only. Go for <a href='http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socket939/a8v-d/overview.htm' target='_blank'>this</a>. There's also a PCI-Express version, if you prefer. (A8V-E)

    [EDIT:] Or this, if you're on a tight budget. <a href='http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=K8V-X&langs=09' target='_blank'>http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=K8V-X&langs=09</a>

Is it possible to get one both PCI express and AGP?

    Nope, that's the P4 version. Try <a href='http://www.asus.com/products/mb/socket939/a8v-d/overview.htm' target='_blank'>this one instead.</a>

Not as far as I know. You'd have to take the plunge and get an X600 or 800.

So far you're looking through Asus boards which means you'll be spending the bucks. If you're on a tight budget and you want a 939 board with an AGP port, <a href='http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813152052' target='_blank'>try this one.</a>

Well actually the X700's aren't too expensive, ~$175 is actually cheap for a graphics card in todays world.

    The genral jist is this:

If you're running in a 32 bit environment and do a lot of encoding (divx, virtual dub, winzip, lame, etc) then get a P4

For everything else.. get an Athlon (gaming especailly)
