Sound Device Problems

<div class="IPBDescription">Quick! Help me :(</div> Hey, this day when I opened my computer I suddenly noticed the following problem; I opened winamp, tried to play a song but it came up with an error:
Bad directsound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error code: 88780078

When I checked the computer setup, I noticed that the hardware management had exclamation marks in:
-Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator
-And all of my (virtual one too) cd/dvd drives.

Dxdiag cant help at all, in audio it says "no audio driver installed" and so on.
I have an onboard, integrated Soundmax Integrated audio driver. Updates to this driver is half impossible to get, as it's one of those you get from random websites that require registration and that I don't trust in.. Either they're not for my sound system or they're completely fk'd otherwise.

WHAT AM I TO DO <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    This problem appears to be pretty common.

Look in anything that appears to be a tech support forum.</a>

    Thanks for all of those, most of them I've checked out though. What's a program that I could define what my audio driver exactly is and the version of it? Some hw check out program..?
    [edit] I am aware of hardware setup but I can't actually find my info from there

    Device manager. Go into your device manager and you should be able to get to your audio hardware settings from there.

    Well I've had that figured. I've Fixed the problem now! \o/ Windows update had an update for my soundchip o_0 I don't know which arse did it pull it off from but hey, it's good to go now. Thanks anyways cold-nite, appreciate it <3

    SAAAAAAY I've got another problem though, maybe I'll bring it out here:
    MY DESKTOP WON'T REFRESH ON IT OWN! Meaning, whenever I download something on the desktop, move something to the desktop or delete something from the desktop, I have to press F5/refresh in order to see the difference. I've been tricked to try and delete the same file more than many time now and getting a "file not found" type of error (since it's already been removed but there is a ghost of it left). Damn bugger. What's up with this? It started on it's own but won't end on it's own <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
