I Just Got My First Spam Email :(

Today my super secret email account, which I've managed to keep spam-free for something like four or five years, just received an ad for some pyramid scheme.

I was so careful. I didn't sign up for any dodgy-privacy-policy things with that email address and it's not visible in text form anywhere on the net (according to Google). I'd love to know how they got a hold of it, but replying will just make it worse

When you googled your email address, it was logged and sold to a mass marketer.

Wouldn't that be kind of difficult to do? I mean, if his email is even eight characters, excluding the domain, that means they would have to send thirty-six (twenty-six letters plus ten numbers) to the eighth emails, which is 2821109907456 different emails.

Not true...I regularly get E-mails that aren't actually addressed to me. They are addressed to some similar email account, which I guess doesn't actually exist, and since the first 2 or 3 letters are the same it somehow defaults into my Email account instead.

I don't claim to have the slightest clue how it works, but it does.

Oh, good. I wasn't sure if I had sent that to the right address. Guess I'll mark that one down as a keeper then.

ha, i have three emails, gmail, for sending big files, my work one, and my yahoo misc common one i use for more everyday type things.

Recently yahoo is trying to compete with google and open up bigger accounts free of charge to everyone with a yahoo email account.

One might wonder how they are doing such a thing and not expecting everyone to pay for it.

Basically ever since they did this its common (in fact very common now ) for me too log in to my yahoo account and have like 20 differnt spam emails in my box. At least yahoo automatically filters them into spam folder but still its a few extra clicks i have to do to maintain my inbox.
