    Well, t'would appear that PS has just a nerve to hit, as does every other game out there.

    I will be joining the Werner server, but haven't made up my mind yet as to which empire I'll join. TR seems to be the choice at the moment, going by what people are saying here.

    Haven't even installed the game yet, as it's not turned up. Bloody expansion pack has, but the core game is still MIA!

    That's just weird, nil. Whenever I used the MCG I get at least twice as many kills per death than I do when using the Jackhammer, especially when defending a tower. I also make a point of stealing MCGs and Cyclers whenever I can, as well as pulsars, but never the lasher.

    On a side note I have no idea what just happened on Werner, but the NC just zerged two continents and captured them both, and we never faced more than 15 enemy the whole time.

    I may or may not start playing PS again depending on summer classes and whether I like Battlegrounds in WoW once they go live.

    That's because you're using an MCG largely against MCG users. They're coming to you whilst you're stationary, thus your COF is smaller, thus you win.

    Now if someone attacked you with a jackhammer you'd see why it is totally not underpowered whatever you try to tell me.

    I have actually noticed that since the last patch, i've been doing a hell of a lot better with the jackhammer. Before, it seemed that only half of the pellets were actually doing damage, but now I just slice through anything.

    I know it hasn't been buffed, so I don't know what's happened. Maybe some net-code was upgraded or something, but I'm definately doing better with it.

    Also, has anyone else noticed that the Reaver just seems far more sluggish now? I didn't notice any changes to it in the changelog thing that's included in the loader (I didn't check the link so maybe it was changed there).

    And finally, I picked up the AV cert at last and I'll definately agree that the Phoenix is just a <i>tad</i> overpowered. Being able to hide behind a tower and decimate Max units that can't even see me is a bit unfair. But then again most of them were VS maxes, and I really, <b>really</b> hate the VS maxes so much.

    Your forgeting that the planetside devs like to make unloged changes too =/
  • Nil_IQNil_IQ Join Date: 2003-04-15 Member: 15520Members
    They changed the z-axis detection, essentially people will warp less now; i.e, no more dissapearing-through-walls-style action from those with slower connections.

    Some people are claiming this is "the worst thing ever to happen to planetside", but they are largely ignored considering you should only really have been negatively effected by this change if you were using 56k.

    You guy's made me want to play PS so much that I went out and bought Aftershock, and I'll be joining the TR as usual, so hopefully I can join one of you guy's guilds or something.

    What is aftershock anyways? To me it looked like it was just Planetside and Core Combat packaged together.

    As far as I'm aware, it is. I think by the time Core Combat came around, they weren't selling planetside on the shelves any more, so they bundled them together and sold them as a new thing (or at least, marketed them as a new thing).

    I'm probably 100% wrong but I'm fairly sure neither of them are sold much at shops now (my copy is from Fileplanet, for example, and I looked around 6 shops for Core Combat and never found it).

    Nope, you're right, aftershock is just Planetside and Core combat in one package, plus all of the patches up until BFRs were released, so no more 6-hours of downloading patches if you need to re-install!

    Also, new sniper-rifle being added this week, although only 2-year veterans can get it for the first month, which does not include me. After the month is up, it will be available to anyone with the sniper certification, and all 2-year vets.

    Does this mean that I'm going to be spending my first month of PlanetSide hiding from open view, lest I get capped by some vet, packing a new-hotness sniper rifle?

    Oweh. I think I'll be taking those free Battle Ranks in the VR training!

    No.

    Some supposed gun expert came on to the forums and said that by military classifications, it's actually what they call a "Scout rifle"; not as long ranged as a true sniper rifle, but more effective at closer ranges, and with a higher rate of fire.

    It's called the "Heavy sniper-rifle", but honestly it's rubbish compared with the bolt-driver. It has a 10-shot clip and a much faster rate of fire than the bolt-driver, but takes 5 shots to kill a REXO, and has quite a nasty COF bloom with every shot, meaning you'll probably only manage to pick off wounded enemys with not much health left.

    How do I know all this? Take a look on the test server <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Copy your entire planetside directory somewhere new and rename it (i called mine PStest), then double-click the "Planetsidetest.exe", this will give you access to the test server, where you can use the weapon in VR training.

    I honestly think it's better to release it underpowered and then buff it than to release it overpowered and nerf it.

    <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    The cycler does ever-so-slightly more damage at point-blank than the gauss, but if you had the jump on him you still should have won. The only way I can see you should have lost there was:

    A: You wern't at point blank when you fired

    B: He was in rexo (which makes sense if he had a cycler as well)

    C: You were in agile (because you're a noob <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

    He probably therefore only won because he had more armour, and better aim than you. If he didn't have one of the above, you would have got him. I had the exact same thing happen to me in my first week.

    *edit* Ok, I re-read your post and you were in rexo... you must just suck <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    In seriousness though, he probably used personal shield (an implant) and a medkit after you'd hurt him a bit, sending his actually HP from 100 to 175 (pshield adds 50 health, medkit heals 25). The disadvantage to personal shield is that when it is exhausted, you can't move above walking speed. Apparently this wasn't a problem for him as he just stayed put and blasted you.

    *another edit* Next time, wait until JUST after he takes a shot; catch him while he's reloading.

    Seriously, I still say the Cycler is by far the best. It seems to own the guass both at range, and up close.

    I use enhanced targetting so I can see how much damage I'm doing to people. At range, with me using a guass and them a cycler, I'll be dead when they're on about half health (and I make liberal use of medkits).

    It's not that I'm missing because I'm a fairly decent aim nowadays (except when attacking infantry with a mosquito... i am so noob at that), and I don't just hold down fire. It seems that for every 1 Guass shot that connects, the cycler can dish out 3 or 4, which renders the guass' more powerful "bullets" useless.

    *EDIT*
    Just to tie in with your last post, you can see personal shield in effect can't you? I'm fairly sure that the people who correspond with the situation above weren't using personal shield.

    I would do such a thing, but for 2 problems.

    1. Not got DSL yet, probably will in a few more days.
    2. Play have appeared to "lost" my copy of PS, which is now reading the dreaded "Out Of Stock", but claim to have posted it on 09/05/05, after I placed the order at 9pm! I smell some bulls**t. Utter BS this classification being applied to games. The Scout in CS is just as effective, if not more effective than the AWM, even though the AWM kills in one shot, there are more kills made per hour with the Scout, than with the AWM. Look at Delta Force. There are more kills made with the PSG-1 than with the Browning .50. How they can apply real-life classes to fictional games is beyond me.

    Games need balance. Real life needs a f**king huge caliber weapon, and a decent shot.

    I will still be lending my skill to the Werner server, it just might take a bit of time...

    very interesting... how big is the player base for PS? i may consider jumping into it cause i'm exhaustively bored with my current game collection right now.
