    Nice specs, should handle it without any problems at all (only downer is the XP Home edition but that's not anywhere near a major worry).

    It's all a bit in the air at the moment. I did write quite a lengthy post somewhere on these forums about why it's best to wait a little bit to map for source but also why it's still worth the effort to continue on the HL engine to keep gaining mapping experience in general.

    hey i made up a fast idea tho sence im more build as i go it will mostlikely change lol the idea is the have a crashed ship land on eather a planet or astroide (no outside part so dont wory) will be partly on the ship and have hall breaches leading in the the caves think the name will be like ns_crashed, tho might endup as a infested outpost thay crashed in2 <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I did exactly the same thing with Solace, MSPainted myself up a layout with names, pretty colours and the like. What eventually happened was that as I started going through each room and corridor they got much bigger or smaller in size and changed shape quite dramatically. I also found the layout at a second glance to be, well, quite frankly rubbish as far as balance was concerned.

    I'd suggest concentrating on the main rooms, getting them themed in terms of function/visuals and then putting in your mind some sort of balance ratio.

    Eg: Cargo (Tanith) - Marines:Aliens = 70:30 or something, as it needs to balance out the fact it is a very close res node.

    So what I'm saying is, by all means keep the rough layout, but forget about the corridors (except perhaps sketching down on paper some 2D x-sectional concepts), and play around with the RT placement. Then think about this balance ratio, perhaps making it easier for 'rines closer to the MS and easier for the Aliens closer to the Hives (unless of course you have a Cargo example like above).
